This report summarises the findings of research into the public attitudes to travel during the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine rollout. The research aimed to understand:

  • potential demand for public transport, aviation and maritime travel during the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine rollout
  • the impact of vaccination on confidence and perceived risks of travel
  • the risks of non-compliance with mitigation measures and the policy/communications measures that need to be put in place

The research consisted of 16 online focus groups (8 with public transport users, 4 with aviation travellers, 3 with ferry travellers and 1 with cruise travellers) and 12 in-depth interviews with vulnerable public transport users.

The research was undertaken by Britain Thinks on behalf of the Department for Transport.

The fieldwork took place between 20 and 25 January 2021.
