Farmers and employers must make sure that anyone looking after their laying hens knows, and has access to, this code. The code’s main aim is to encourage farmers to adopt high standards of welfare. It can also be used to back up legislative requirements.

If you’re charged with a welfare offence, not following the welfare code may be used to establish your guilt.
