In July 2026, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government launched funding to address cladding fire safety risks in buildings under 11 metres, delivered through Homes England’s Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS).

This delivered on the government’s commitment in the Remediation Acceleration Plan Update (July 2025) and supported a risk-based approach to remediation. Funding prioritised buildings according to cladding fire safety risk, with priority given to those that present a high life critical cladding fire safety risk.

The application window for funding through the CSS closed on 9 October 2026. New applications can no longer be submitted through the Building Remediation Hub. Applications submitted before the deadline will be assessed in line with the published eligibility criteria and risk-based prioritisation approach. Applicants should contact Homes England if they have questions about an existing application.

The department’s position remains that buildings under 11 metres are less likely to have widespread cladding fire safety risks. However, funding was made available where a Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls, undertaken by a suitably qualified and competent professional in accordance with PAS 9980:2026, identified unsafe cladding that presented a serious life critical fire safety risk.
