  1. Updated question 4.10 within the biodiversity gain plan template to clarify that minor developments that are not already exempt from biodiversity net gain (BNG) do not need to provide justification of why they are using off-site biodiversity units.

  2. Added a link to the overall biodiversity gain plan template and phase biodiversity gain plan template.

  3. Clarified that biodiversity gain plan templates for phased developments will be available soon.

  4. Updated gain plan templates to fix broken link and make small content changes.

  5. Updated box at top of page to state that biodiversity net gain (BNG) is mandatory from 12 February 2024 and removed the 'draft guidance' label. Changes to make terminology consistent with other BNG guidance. Removed repeated information from 'Submit a biodiversity gain plan'.

Details

A biodiversity gain plan is a document that shows how you will achieve BNG. In your biodiversity gain plan you must provide evidence for your BNG decisions.  

You can submit the biodiversity gain plan to your local planning authority after they approve your planning application.

For phased developments, complete the overall biodiversity gain plan template and phase biodiversity gain plan template.
