On 4 May 2018 Ofqual formally withdrew recognition from AVA with effect from 17:00 on the same date.

Following an investigation in connection with an alleged malpractice incident, Ofqual identified defects in a number of AVA’s systems which are vital to the secure delivery and award of valid qualifications.

Ofqual considered AVA had breached several of the General Conditions of Recognition and took the view that withdrawal of recognition was appropriate. AVA admitted that it had breached the Conditions and decided not to contest the enforcement proceedings.

AVA had previously given an undertaking, which Ofqual has today published, as a result of which there were no learners on any AVA qualifications when the withdrawal decision was made.
