AQA Education (AQA) Inconsistent application of regulations relating to reviews of marking and moderation Undertaking accepted Closed

Following a review of post-results data relating to reviews undertaken after the summer 2017 examination series, Ofqual identified increases of marks and grades that it considered to be inconsistent with fully compliant application of aspects of the reviews of marking and moderation conditions. Ofqual investigated this issue and concluded that AQA had not acted sufficiently to change reviewers’ behaviours and practices. AQA recognises that it failed to secure full compliance with the conditions.

Ofqual has requested assurances from AQA that we will take steps to:

  1. Review and improve their reviewer training (and make it mandatory).
  2. Review and improve their approach to monitoring reviewers to identify any potential for non-compliant practices.
  3. Consider and explain how, as a result of that monitoring, AQA will intervene where necessary.

The attached document provides more details of their undertaking.
