Jennifer MacNaughtan

Biography

Jennifer MacNaughtan was appointed Political Coordinator at the UK Mission to the United Nations, New York, in August 2025.

Previously, she was Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Warsaw 2022 - 2025.

In that role, Jen was responsible for the daily management of the Embassy and leading its work to promote a strong political relationship between the UK and Poland, with a particular focus on bilateral cooperation, and on foreign and security policy.

Prior to this, Jen held Senior Civil Service roles as Head of Diplomatic Strategy in the Department for Exiting the European Union and then the FCDO; and as co-lead of the FCDO’s COVID-19 response in Europe.

Jen joined the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 2007.

During her FCDO career, she has worked on a wide range of issues including: the European Union, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the United Nations, sanctions, and human rights.

She was posted to the UK Mission to the United Nations in New York 2011-2013.

Jen studied French and European politics at the University of Leeds and then the College of Europe, Bruges.

Before joining the FCO, she worked in Kenya, Belgium, Luxembourg and France.

Jen speaks French and Polish.

The Political Coordinator is a senior diplomat responsible for leading the UK Mission’s political engagement at the United Nations. They lead on the UK’s approach to Security Council business and international peace and security issues across the UN. They represent the UK in negotiations and discussions with UN member states and senior UN officials.
