From April 2015 some enforcement functions carried out by the VCA will be transferred to the NMRO.
Please note that from 1st April 2015 certain enforcement activities carried out by Vehicle Certification Authority (VCA) on behalf of the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) will be transferred to the National Measurement and Regulation Office (NMRO).
This applies to the following activities:
- noise emission in the environment by equipment for use outdoors regulations 2001
- waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) legislation - distributor responsibilities
- waste batteries and accumulators regulations 2009 - distributor responsibilities and producer obligations (industrial and automotive batteries)
- end-of-life vehicles regulations 2003 - part III and IV (prohibition of heavy metals and information requirements respectively)
Further details are available on the NMRO area of the GOV.UK website.
The VCA staff currently engaged in enforcing the provisions of the above will transfer to the NMRO and continue their roles from 1st April 2015. Appropriate redirections will be placed on web content and helpline contact details to ensure continuity.
