Minister Swire regrets further executions in Japan

Following news of two executions in Japan, FCO Minister Hugo Swire has called for an end to the practice worldwide.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Foreign Office Minister Hugo Swire said:

We have learned today with regret that Japan has carried out two further executions, bringing the total to eight this year. It remains the UK’s position that we oppose the use of the death penalty in all circumstances, and we continue to urge our partners all over the world to join what is a clear global trend towards abolition.
