Speaking today, the Foreign Secretary said:

I am pleased to welcome Foreign Minister José Félix Fernández Estigarribia to the UK. This is our first meeting and the most senior visit from Paraguay since 1994.

This Government wants to enhance our co-operation with Paraguay and Latin America more generally. We share many interests, not least trade and investment; this is a relationship that matters to us.

As part of the enhancement of our relations with Latin America, which I addressed with the Canning House speech, we will soon be opening a new Embassy in Paraguay and I am pleased to announce that we have now appointed a new Ambassador-designate to Paraguay. Dr Jeremy Hobbs will assume his position later this year.
