FCO Minister supports fight against terrorism in Iraq

Hugh Robertson expresses concern for people of Iraq over increased levels of violence in parts of the country.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

FCO Minister for the Middle East, Hugh Robertson, urges an end to the violence in Anbar, Western Iraq saying:

I am extremely concerned about the violence in Anbar Province, Western Iraq, and in particular about reports that Al Qaeda has taken control of parts of Fallujah. The British Government will stand alongside the Iraqi government in combating this threat and other terrorist threats across the region.

All efforts to tackle the threat of terrorism require support amongst the local community and an inclusive political process. It is also vital that civilians are protected and stability returns to Anbar Province where the overwhelming majority of people want to live in a peaceful, prosperous and stable Iraq.
