Responsibilities

The minister will be responsible for co-ordinating work across government to resettle up to 20,000 Syrian refugees in the UK. He will advise the Home Secretary, Communities Secretary and Prime Minister on the implementation of the scheme.

He will co-ordinate with local authorities, the devolved administrations and non-governmental organisations on the arrangements for housing and supporting resettled Syrian refugees in the UK. He will also lead engagement with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to ensure the UK government supports and assists their resettlement work.
