Keep Britain Working
We are now implementing the recommendations of the Keep Britain Working independent review of the role of employers in health and disability, published 5 November 2025. This page brings together information about the review and progress since publication.
Keep Britain Working was an independent review of the role of employers in tackling health based economic inactivity and promoting healthy and inclusive workplaces.
The Keep Britain Working review final report presented the findings and recommendations for the role employers can play in tackling health based economic inactivity and promoting healthy and inclusive workplaces, supporting people with health conditions and disabled people to succeed and stay in work. The review recommended a 3-year Vanguard Phase for Government to work with employers to learn, test and then scale what works. Updates on progress are linked below.
We conducted a discovery phase to understand the characteristics and drivers of rising levels of inactivity and ill health. Through the Keep Britain Working Review: Discovery document we explored where there is the greatest potential for employers and government to make a difference.
Following his leadership of the independent review, the Government appointed Sir Charlie Mayfield to lead the next phase of this work and an Advisory Group to provide strategic recommendations. The Terms of Reference documents can be viewed here.
