DCMS business demographics estimates provide an overview of the number and characteristics of businesses in DCMS sectors and the UK overall. They provide a measure of the number of businesses in industries within DCMS’s remit, a breakdown of the number of businesses by size (turnover and employment band), and the number of business sites in each geographical region of the UK.
All estimates on this page represent the latest version according to updates in methodology.

The number and characteristics of businesses are calculated based on the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR). These estimates are produced annually with each dataset covering a snapshot of one day from the IDBR. These estimates contain a measure of the number of businesses in the DCMS sectors (and UK overall) as well as breakdowns by turnover band, employment band and location of business sites.
