Contracting as an Ofsted inspector
How you can become a contracted Ofsted inspector. You can find out about the process, requirements and rewards of this role.
Ofsted has a permanent employed inspector workforce of His Majesty’s Inspectors (HMIs) and Regulatory Inspectors. There is separate guidance if you want to become an HMI or Regulatory Inspector.
In addition, we contract with people who will provide inspection services from time to time. These people are known as ‘Ofsted inspectors’.
Ofsted inspectors provide contracted services to Ofsted: they are not employees.
