Call for evidence: Strategy for the built environment professions, trades and occupations
Applies to England
Call for evidence description
In December 2025, the government announced in the Single Construction Regulator Prospectus that it will publish a new strategy for the built environment professions, trades and occupations in 2027. This will support the government’s vision for a building system where buildings are safe, high-performing and sustainable; companies and individuals are enabled to thrive when they operate in the interests of current and future building users; and the building system is trusted.
This call for evidence is an important route to gathering the information government needs to inform this strategy. We encourage responses from those involved across the whole building lifecycle. This includes:
- those directly employed in the full range of built environment professions, trades and occupations
- clients (commercial, public sector and domestic)
- manufacturers
- education providers
- those working in adjacent sectors such as insurance, legal and financial services
- professional bodies, trade bodies, statutory regulators and consumer or representative organisations.
This call for evidence is structured in 5 parts, which cover the following stages of a building’s lifecycle:
- pre-design
- design and specification
- construction
- occupation and maintenance
- cross-cutting issues, themes and challenges
Respondents may choose to respond to the full call for evidence or just those questions which are most relevant to your area(s), interest or expertise. We welcome real world examples and quantitative data wherever possible.
