CLOSED: COVID-19 Response NEETs Engagement in New Anglia – OC24S21P1840

Call to run a project to deliver a coordinated response to NEET transitions, focused on ‘wraparound’ support for young people who have been impacted by COVID-19 lockdowns, both educationally and in terms of their wellbeing and mental health.

This call is now closed. Please do not submit an application for this project call. The information below is provided for reference purposes only.

Details

It is anticipated the resulting project from this Call will address national and local priorities around the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the education, training and employment opportunities for young people.

The issues faced by young people, especially those facing particular barriers, are a particular concern addressed in the New Anglia LEP Covid-19 Economic Recovery Restart Plan, with a renewed commitment from all partners to the New Anglia Youth Pledge, which states that ‘every young person in Norfolk and Suffolk will have the support they need to get into high quality education, employment, training, or an apprenticeship.’

A number of ESF projects address the needs of young people dropping out of employment or further education, and the pathway to apprenticeships and other particular provision. This Call request focuses on high school leavers, including those who have not completed their school education, who have not had a chance to gain any employment experience, or to even begin to think about further education, because of the disruption to their education caused by the pandemic. Providers are reporting that many young people have disengaged and lost all confidence in attending educational institutions or looking for steps towards employment.

It is also expected that the successful project will offer a service which combines support in the community with the creation of a ‘safe space’ for NEETS within an FE College or Colleges as part of the process of re-engagement with the education and training system.
