Challenge your Council Tax band
How to challenge
For properties in England and Wales, use the online service to make a challenge. You can use this whether you have a legal right to make a challenge or not.
You may need to provide evidence to support your case.
You must continue paying Council Tax while your challenge is being reviewed.
Challenge on behalf of someone else
You can challenge someone’s council tax band for them if they’ve appointed you as their ‘representative’ in an Authority to act form.
You then need to fill in a Council Tax challenge form on their behalf - you cannot use the online service.
Send both completed forms to the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) at the same time by email or post.
If you cannot use the online service
To ask for a property to be removed from the Council Tax list, you’ll need to complete a Council Tax challenge form instead.
You can challenge your Council Tax band by emailing:
ctinbox@voa.gov.uk
You can also get extra support from the VOA if you need help using the online service.
