Update your UK Visas and Immigration account details

Overview

You should update your UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account if you’ve changed your:

  • mobile phone number
  • email address
  • name
  • identity document, such as your passport or national identity card
  • home address
  • postal address

You can also:

  • correct your date of birth
  • add an extra nationality - if you have dual nationality, for example
  • add an extra identity document
  • change your photo, for example if your appearance has changed and you can no longer be recognised from your photo
  • give someone else access to your visa applications, if you’d like them to help you apply
  • give someone else ownership of the UKVI account, if you set up the account on their behalf

You cannot change your identity document or name if you’re waiting for a decision on a visa application.

Who has a UKVI account

You’ll have a UK Visas and Immigration account if you’ve ever:

  • applied to the EU Settlement Scheme
  • used the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app to prove your identity when applying for a visa
  • created one when applying for a visa (you’ll have received a UKVI account confirmation email)
  • created one to get access to an eVisa (an online record of your immigration status) - you’ll have received an email about this

There’s a different way to update your details if you do not have a UKVI account.

Why your details need to be up to date

Your details must be up to date so that you can:

  • view and prove your rights to others, for example employers or landlords
  • be contacted by UKVI, for example if you’re waiting for a decision or to have documents returned
  • travel with your current identity document

If you do not have the correct identity document in your UKVI account, you may be delayed at the border when entering the UK.
