State Pension top up

The State Pension top up scheme has now closed. You can’t apply for the scheme or make a payment anymore.

Get a refund

You can get a refund (minus any top up you’ve been paid) if you change your mind within 90 days of topping up.

If you die

If you die within 90 days of making your payment, it will be refunded to your estate (your total property, money and possessions). Anything you’ve already claimed will be deducted from this amount.

Inheriting top up payments

In most cases your spouse or civil partner can inherit between 50% and 100% of the top up payment. They can contact the Pension Service to find out more.
