The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) have merged to form the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Register with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) so you can book certain types of theory and practical driving tests more easily.

There are 2 ways you can register with DVSA:

  • as a business
  • as a trainer booker

The option you choose will depend on the type of tests you want to book.

Register as a business

When you register as a business:

  • you can book any type of practical test
  • you can give your payment details once so you don’t have to give them each time you book
  • you must give your pupil’s details when you book the test
  • you can manage your availability for driving tests if you’re an approved driving instructor (ADI)

How to register as a business

  1. Register as a business with DVSA - you’ll get a business ID and an email with an activation code called a ‘DAT code’.

  2. Register as an ‘organisation’ on the Government Gateway - you can’t use your ‘individual’ Government Gateway account.

  3. Go to the Government Gateway and choose ‘Enter the Government Gateway’.

  4. Log in with the Government Gateway user ID and password you set up in step 3.

  5. Choose ‘practical test online business service’ from the list.

  6. Enter your DAT code, business ID and postcode.

  7. Use the online ‘step-by-step wizard’ to finish setting up your account.

  • you can book and pay for test slots in advance without giving your pupil’s details until nearer the test date
