The Pig Carcase Grading Scheme: register for the scheme

How to join the Pig Carcase Grading Scheme, administered by the Rural Payments Agency (RPA).

Applies to England and Wales

If your abattoir slaughters 500 or more clean pigs every week (on a rolling annual average), you must be registered with the Pig Carcase Grading Scheme. Clean pigs are animals that have not been used for breeding. You must register within 28 days of becoming an operator of such an abattoir.

The scheme is run by RPA’s Meat Technical Schemes team.

How to register

Fill in the Pig Carcase Grading Scheme registration form (PDF, 150 KB, 4 pages) and send it to RPA at the address below.

Keep your details up to date

After you’ve registered, you must tell RPA’s Meat Technical Schemes team, within 28 days, if any of the following details change.

  • the operator of the premises or the operator’s trading name
  • the address or telephone number of the premises or the owner’s registered office
  • the approval number of the abattoir (assigned by the Food Standards Agency).
