Request authorisation to deal with someone else's tax credits if you are a registered intermediary

How to get urgent authorisation to speak to HMRC about someone else's tax credits if you are an intermediary organisation.

You can get urgent authorisation to speak to HMRC about someone else’s tax credits if you are registered as an intermediary organisation.

If you want an intermediary, such as Citizens Advice, to help you with your tax credits use TC689 form.

What you’ll need

To request urgent authorisation you’ll need to provide:

  • a completed TC689 form, this must be in either PDF or JPEG format and no larger than 10MB
  • the name and registered address of the intermediary organisation
  • the Office Identification Number (OIN) of the intermediary organisation (you can find this on the allocation letter sent by HMRC)
  • your name and telephone number

Request authorisation

You’ll need to either:

  • sign in — if you do not already have sign in details, you’ll be able to create them
  • use your email address to get a confirmation code that you can use to sign in

Start now

After submitting your request

HMRC will contact you to let you know if your request for authorisation has been approved, or if we require any further information.

Authorisation to speak to HMRC about your client’s tax credits will last for 12 months from the date of signature on the TC689 form, unless a different end date is added.

You need to keep a copy of the TC689 form for 7 years from the date that you submit your request (and make it available if we request to see it).
