Guidance

Give authority to act for Council Tax challenges

Fill in a form to give someone else authority to challenge your Council Tax band on your behalf.

Submit this form to the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) to appoint someone to challenge your Council Tax band on your behalf. This could be an agent, friend or family member.

This will also give the VOA authority to share information about the property with the person you have named. This includes any previous contact you’ve had with the VOA about the property.

This form overrides any previous authority given to VOA. We hold this authority until you either:

  • tell us otherwise
  • instruct us that the details have changed
  • send us an updated form

You must fill in a Council Tax challenge form and send both forms to the VOA together. If you do not send both forms together, your challenge may be marked as invalid.

How to fill in the form

You can either:

  • download the form and fill it in on-screen
  • print the form and fill it in by hand
