The UK Government is to commit a further £2m towards the flood response effort in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The commitment was agreed at today’s Balkans Flood donor conference in Brussels.

The UK has to date provided nearly £1 million to support both countries deal with the immediate aftermath of the floods, including providing rescue personnel, supporting the delivery of food, aid, and humanitarian supplies, insecticide, specialist pumps, advice and expertise, and supporting a World Vision flood response project in the region focussing on sanitation and health and providing support for 140,000 people made homeless by the floods.

The UK has worked closely with the governments of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the EU, and other international partners to offer advice and assistance during all phases of the flood response effort.
