British Ambassador speaks about the UK role in the European Union

On 10 March 2015 Her Majesty’s Ambassador Mr George Edgar was invited to the Banking and Finance Academy in Tashkent to deliver a presentation on the United Kingdom and the European Union.

More than 100 students and academic staff members attended the Ambassador’s presentation, where he spoke about the history of the UK’s membership of the European Economic Community and later the EU since 1973 and the UK’s approach over that period to the EU’s economic and political development. The Ambassador also described the EU’s successes over the last decades including the creation of a single market and the establishment of an effective common foreign policy, as well as some of the challenges that the EU faces.

The lecture provoked a lively discussion and Ambassador Edgar answered additional questions from students and academic staff.
