Suicide prevention profile updates

  1. Added the latest data for suicide rates for the period 2023 to 2025 and revised previous years rates due to revised mid-year population estimates.

  2. Updated and new suicide rates for the population aged 10 years and older for the 3 year sex specific rates for persons, males and females at NHS region and integrated care board (ICB) geographies and for the 5 year age and sex specific rates for persons, males and females at England, region, upper tier local authority, NHS region and ICB geographies.

  3. Added new suicide rates for the period 2022 to 2024 and updated rates for 2020 to 2022 and 2021 to 2023 (for England, regions, upper and lower tier local authorities).

  4. Updated to correct the error in data for 2 indicators at ICB and NHS region geographies.

  5. Added a correction notice where an error has been identified for some indicators for ICB and NHS geographies.

  6. New age and gender specific suicide rate and updated suicide rate indicators for integrated care board and NHS region geographies; updated age and gender specific suicide rate indicator for upper tier local authorities.

  7. The suicide rate indicator has been updated for England, regions, upper and lower tier local authorities for the period 2021 to 2023.

  8. New age and gender specific suicide rates, and update of years of life lost due to suicide age-standardised rates, for England, regions and upper tier local authorities. This update is accompanied by a statistical commentary.

  9. New data for the period 2020 to 2022 and data update for the period 2012 to 2021 of suicide rate indicators for England, regions county, unitary authority and district level.

  10. New data on years of life lost due to suicide. Updated data in related risk factors domain.

Details

The November 2026 release includes updated suicide rates for the population aged 10 years and older (for persons, males and females at England, region, upper-tier local authority geographies). There are:

  • new suicide rates for the period 2023 to 2025
  • updated rates for previous years due to revised mid-year population estimates

This update is not accompanied by a statistical commentary. The latest commentary was published in May 2024.

The suicide prevention profile has been produced to help develop understanding at a local level and support an intelligence-driven approach to suicide prevention. It provides planners, providers and stakeholders with the means to profile their area and benchmark against similar populations.
