Key facts

The breastfeeding initiation rate in England was 73.4% in 2010/11 Quarter 1, which is slightly higher than 2009/10 Q1 (72.7%) and 2008/09 (71.7%).

The prevalence of breastfeeding in England at 6-8 weeks at 2010/11 Quarter 1 was 44.4% of infants due a 6-8 week check, largely unchanged from the figure of 44.7% recorded in 2009/10 Q1.
