Statistics on freight handled at major UK sea ports for July to September 2018.

When comparing July to September 2018 with July to September 2017:

  • total freight tonnage through UK major ports fell by 1% to 117.1 million tonnes
  • inward tonnage to UK major ports increased by 2% to 75.1 million tonnes
  • outward tonnage fell by 6% to 42.0 million tonnes

  • total volume of unitised traffic through UK major ports fell by 2% to 6.7 million units
  • inwards units fell by 3% to 3.5 million units
  • outward units fell by 2% to 3.2 million units

When comparing the rolling year to September 2018 with the rolling year to September 2017:

  • total tonnage through UK major ports decreased 2% to 463.4 million tonnes
  • total volume of unitised traffic decreased 2% to 23.6 million units
