These statistics cover police officers, police staff, designated officers, police community support officers, special constables and police support volunteers in the 43 police forces in England and Wales and the British Transport Police.
These statistics also report on growth of police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in neighbourhood policing (NHP) roles under the Neighbourhood Policing Programme (NPP).
The annex to this release also includes information on assaults against police employees.
