9 October 2025
The 'Police workforce, England and Wales, 31 March 2025: functions open data tables' have been updated to second edition following revisions from the Metropolitan Police Service to their functions data as at 31 March 2025 for police staff (including s.38 designated officers). This revision affects numbers in the ‘Front desk’, ‘Incident (Response) Management’ and ‘National Policing’ subfunction categories only. There has been no change in overall police staff (including s.38 designated officer) numbers for the MPS. Additionally, following the identification of a historic anomaly in the estimates of the functions data as at 31 March 2015 for police officers in Warwickshire, the figures have been amended. The original estimates of the March 2015 function data for Warwickshire totalled 1,325.4 full-time equivalents (FTE) police officers. The function estimates have now been corrected to total 827.8 FTE police officers to match the actual number of FTE police officers as published in the ‘Police workforce, England and Wales, 31 March 2025: workforce open data tables’. Furthermore, for as at 31 March 2015 to 2020, it was identified that police officers and police staff (including s.38 designated officers) working in subfunction '5a' were incorrectly given the function subgroup name of 'Road Policing Command Team and Support Overheads'. The function subgroup name for ‘5a’ should have been 'Operational Support Team and Support Overheads'. This has now been corrected. No other function fields, including 'Wider Function Number', 'Wider Function Name' and 'Frontline Type', were affected and there has been no change in the total number of officers or police staff (including s.38 designated officers) for these years. Updated 'Police workforce, England and Wales, 31 March 2025: absence open data tables' to second edition to clarify which forces were unable to provide specific data on suspensions for as at 31 March 2024 and 2025. This is for clarity only, and there has been no change to the reported number of full-time equivalents on long term absence.
