Energy production, trade, electricity generation and consumption
Highlights for the 3 month period April 2025 to June 2025, compared to the same period a year earlier include:
- Primary energy consumption in the UK on a fuel input basis fell by 4.9%, on a temperature adjusted basis consumption fell by 4.4%. (table ET 1.2)
- Indigenous energy production rose by 2.2%. (table ET 1.1)
- Electricity generation by Major Power Producers down marginally, with gas up 7.9%, renewables up 2.3%, but nuclear down 14%.* (table ET 5.4)
- Renewables provided 49.2% of electricity generation by Major Power Producers, with gas at 30.6% and nuclear at 19.2%.* (table ET 5.4)
- Low carbon share of electricity generation by Major Power Producers down 1.6 percentage points to 68.4%, whilst fossil fuel share up 1.6 percentage points to 30.8%.* (table ET 5.4)
*Major Power Producers (MPPs) data published monthly, all generating companies data published quarterly.
Energy prices
Highlights for August 2025 compared to July 2025:
Petrol up 0.7 pence per litre and diesel up 1.5 pence per litre. (table QEP 4.1.1)

Data periods and coverage
Statistics on monthly production, trade and consumption of coal, oil, gas, electricity and total energy include data up to the end of June 2025.
Statistics on average temperatures, heating degree days, wind speeds, sun hours and rainfall include data up to the end of July 2025.
Statistics on energy prices include retail price data and EU comparative data for July 2025, and petrol and diesel data for August 2025.
