UN Human Rights Council 48: UK statement for the interactive dialogue with the Group of Eminent Experts on Yemen
UK International Ambassador for Human Rights Rita French gave a statement on the UK's concern about human rights violations in Yemen by all parties in the conflict.
We are deeply concerned by the findings of the Group of Eminent Experts. Reporting has alleged serious and wide-ranging human rights violations and abuses by all parties to the conflict. The UK urges the parties involved to investigate these allegations and take action to promote and protect human rights, as well as cooperate with the Group in future.
We are particularly concerned by the acts being committed against some of the most vulnerable groups. Yemen has one of the highest verified numbers of grave human rights violations and abuses against children, including cases of abduction, recruitment and acts of sexual violence. We are also appalled by the indiscriminate Houthi targeting of Saudi cities with ballistic missiles and drones.
Yemen remains a human rights priority country for the UK. We will continue to work with all parties to end the conflict and will support the new UN Special Envoy, Hans Grundberg, in pursuing a political settlement and end to the conflict. A political solution is key to improving the human rights situation in Yemen.
