The working group meeting on health claims on 18 June 2012 covered agenda items including:
- recent EFSA opinions on health claims based on newly developed scientific evidence and
- progress on further assessment of general function health claims. It also yielded interesting discussions on traditionally-used generic descriptors that could be construed as health claims; general, non-specific health claims; and draft Commission guidance on interpreting Article 10 of the claims Regulation.
Following on from this meeting, representatives of some member states met informally on 19 June 2012 to discuss a common approach to advising food businesses about flexibility of wording for health claims.
