Details

Ofqual has issued Cambridge English with a monetary penalty of £875,000 following marking errors affecting Cambridge English’s IELTS qualification between August 2023 and September 2025. As a result of the marking errors, there were 63,216 test instances requiring  a change of result at component or qualification level. These errors affected 62,794 learners.

These documents outline details of the monetary penalty and the recovery of Ofqual’s costs. 

Details of an undertaking given by Cambridge English to Ofqual, to prevent the errors happening again, is also provided below. The undertaking is in accordance with Condition B8 of the General Conditions of Recognition.
