Details

Under the Clean Energy Package negotiated in 2018, EU member states were required to produce a National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP).

In line with the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement, the UK has submitted and published its final NECP. However, as we are not a member state, our performance in the areas of energy and climate change no longer contributes towards EU targets.

The content in the NECP is wholly accurate up to 31 January 2020, the date the UK left the EU. However, policy announcements and publications after this date have not been incorporated, and the NECP does not supersede these announcements. The impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19) are also not taken into account.

See the Energy white paper and the Prime Minister’s Ten point plan for a green industrial revolution, which set out how the UK will clean up its energy system to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
