The relaxation of the rules that applied until 8 May 2022, subject to review, terminated early at 11.59pm on 22 April 2022.

If you used the relaxation, you need to email a completed follow-up notification of relaxation form to FOLRnotification@dft.gov.uk by 29 April 2022 at the latest.

The Department for Transport (DfT) announced a temporary relaxation of drivers’ hours rules in England, Scotland and Wales from 9 April 2022 until 8 May 2022.

This was in response to urgent situations arising from the cancellation of P&O Ferries services and the congestion of international freight traffic.

In light of the improvement of the situation, DfT terminated the relaxation early at 11.59pm on 22 April 2022.

The situation continues to be under review.

  6. The temporary relaxation of drivers’ hours has been extended until 9 January 2022. If you have made use of the relaxation that ends on 31 October 2021, you must submit a completed a follow-up notification form by 7 November 2021.

  7. The temporary relaxation of drivers’ hours has been extended until 31 October 2021. If you have made use of the relaxation that ends on 3 October 2021, you must complete a follow-up notification form by 10 October 2021.

  8. The temporary relaxation of drivers’ hours has been extended until 3 October 2021. If you have made use of the relaxation that ends on 8 August 2021, you must complete a follow-up notification form by 15 August 2021.

  9. New temporary relaxations take effect from 12:01am on 12 July 2021 until 11:59pm on 8 August 2021, subject to review.
