Details

The schools budget support grant 2026 (SBSG 26) allocates additional funding in the financial year 2026 to 2027 to support increased costs in:

  • mainstream schools (for 5 to 16 provision)
  • special and alternative provision (AP) schools
  • local authorities

This guidance is for:   

  • local authorities   
  • school leaders   
  • governing bodies and their representatives  

Funding for early years settings is being allocated through the early years teachers’ pay grant (EYTPG) 2026 to 2027.

Funding for 16 to 19 provision in schools and academies will be delivered via 16 to 19 allocations. Further information can be found on 16 to 19 funding: information for 2026 to 2027.

Conditions of grant  

Sets out the terms and conditions that local authorities, academies and non-maintained special schools (NMSS) must follow.

Methodology   

Sets out the methodology for SBSG 26 for 2026 to 2027. This includes guidance on how we will allocate funding in 2026 to 2027 for:

  • mainstream schools
  • special, AP and hospital schools
  • local authorities

Calculator for mainstream schools

Ahead of allocations being published in October, the calculator allows mainstream schools to estimate the funding they will receive through SBSG 26 in the financial year 2026 to 2027.
