Details

In this publication, we set out to provide an approximate estimate for the impact of the routine vaccine programmes on deaths and hospitalisations from vaccine-preventable disease each year in England.

We focus on diseases included in the routine pre-school vaccination programme and have based our estimates on the cumulative impact of the programmes to date.

These figures are crude, being based on a simple comparison with the scenario without vaccines.

They do not consider the long-term health impacts of these diseases or account for changes in healthcare over time and are likely to represent a conservative estimate of the impact of vaccination.
