  1. Guidance updated with new sections on section 17(1) setting out the scenarios where a child should normally be registered.

  2. The section on the ‘citizenship ban’ has been removed to reflect the Illegal Migration Act 2023 (Amendment) Regulations 2024.

  3. Updated to reflect changes made by the Illegal Migration Act 2023.

  4. Updated to reflect changes to 17(2) applications. Any mention that the applicant would need to have had their birth registered within 12 months of their birth has been removed. The section on discretion has also been removed as applications made after this 12 month period will no longer be considered late.
