This report considers the role of individual lifestyle choices and behaviour change in achieving public health targets. It focuses on 3 main areas:

  • the concept of habit as it applies to lifestyle change
  • how current research practices limit the application of research insights to public health practice
  • actions that can be taken to improve future lifestyle change campaigns and interventions

This evidence review was commissioned as part of the Foresight project on tackling obesities.
