Rates of obesity have increased sharply in the UK since the mid-1980s and are projected to continue to rise. This modelling exercise projects obesity rates up to 2050 and predicts the consequences for health, health costs and life expectancy.

This edition includes a revised figure for the estimated future costs of people being overweight or obese.

This report was commissioned as part of the Foresight project on tackling obesities.
