North East
Durham County Council
Durham County Council has installed air source heat pumps at Meadowfield Depot, one of the Council’s MOT testing centres. The heat pumps now helps to heat the canteen, welfare centre, and multiple offices on the site.
Durham University
Durham University has installed decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at their Boldon House office building. End-of-life gas boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels were installed to provide the building with a source of renewable energy. Additionally, the energy efficiency of the site was improved through the installation of double glazing and roof insulation.
Newcastle College Group
Newcastle College Group has upgraded Kidderminster College with a range of heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency improvements. End-of-life gas boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels were installed on the south side of the building. Additional improvements, including LED lighting, new lighting controls, and heating pipework insulation, have helped improve the building’s overall energy performance.
Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust installed air source heat pumps at its Regent Point site, which serves as an office base for clinical teams and houses a research office. Solar panels were installed to provide the buildings with a source of renewable energy, and energy efficiency was improved through the installation of LED lighting , roof insulation, double glazing and building energy management systems.
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, Durham
North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency improvements at the University Hospital of Hartlepool by replacing gas-fired boilers with a ground source heat pump. The old steam heating system was also replaced with a plate heat exchanger, and solar panels were fitted to provide the hospital with a source of renewable energy. New LED lighting, cooling systems, and a modern air handling unit were also installed to improve the site’s overall energy efficiency.
Northumbria Police
Northumbria Police has supported the decarbonisation of both Whickham and Ashington Police Stations. Existing gas-fired heaters and boilers at both sites were replaced with air and water source heat pumps. Energy efficiency measures installed across the sites include LED lighting, double glazing, loft and roof insulation, a building energy management system, and advanced lighting controls.
Northumbria University, Newcastle
Northumbria University has carried out heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency improvements across several of its buildings at its Coach Lane East campus, including the library, reception buildings and the Sports Centre. End-of-life gas heating systems were replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels were installed on the roof of the reception and library buildings, and new LED lighting was also fitted.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has supported the decarbonisation of Highcliffe Primary School by installing an air source heat pump and a variety of energy efficiency improvements. Installation of pipework upgrades, a new building energy management system, storage for excess heat, and new variable speed drives, which automatically reduce heating use when not required, have all helped improve the energy efficiency of the school site.
Yorkshire and the Humber
Bishop Burton College, East Riding
Bishop Burton College in East Riding upgraded their main campus building, which served as a base for the estates team, Human Resources, IT support services, and included student accommodation on the upper floors. An air source heat pump was installed alongside energy efficiency improvements, including loft and cavity wall insulation, as well as new double glazing.
Hull Collaborative Academy Trust: Dorchester Primary School, Bransholme
Hull Collaborative Academy Trust has upgraded the heating system at Dorchester Primary School in Bransholme, replacing 11 gas boilers with air source heat pumps.
Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust
Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust has upgraded Alfred Bean Hospital, Hornsea Cottage Hospital, and two sites which provide mental health outpatient services: St Andrews Place Clinic and Westend Clinic. Air source heat pumps, electric boilers and LED lighting were all installed at each site, while wall insulation was installed at all sites except Westend Clinic.
Leeds City Council
Leeds City Council has delivered two projects across 10 schools, a sixth form college, two leisure centres, and five heritage sites within the local authority, including Armley Mills, which houses Leeds Industrial Museum. A combination of both air source and water source heat pumps were installed at all sites, while solar panels were fitted on some buildings to provide them with a source of renewable energy. A variety of energy efficiency measures were also installed, including new insulation, hot water flow restrictors, heat storage, LED lighting, building energy management systems, and upgrades to heating distribution pipework.
Luminate Education Group, Leeds
Luminate Education Group has replaced gas-fired boilers at Leeds Conservatoire, a specialist music and performing arts venue by connecting the site to an existing heat network. Energy efficiency upgrades also installed include new double glazing and LED lighting, air handling units, and an upgrade of the building’s cooling system.
Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust
Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has upgraded Cullingworth Nurses Home at Dewsbury District Hospital. Air source heat pumps were installed and solar panels were fitted to provide the accommodation with a source of renewable energy. Energy efficiency improvements also fitted included new loft insulation and building energy management system upgrades.
North Yorkshire County Council
North Yorkshire County Council has upgraded the heating systems at four North Yorkshire Highway Depots located in Boroughbridge, Kirby Misperton, Selby, and Whitby by installing air source heat pumps.
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has upgraded three buildings across its estate: Clifton Park Museum, Riverside House and the council’s Town Hall. All buildings were connected to the Rotherham heat network, while solar panels were installed at the Town Hall and Clifton Park Museum to provide the buildings with a source of renewable energy. A range of energy efficiency measures were also installed across the sites, including new wall insulation, LED lighting, building energy management systems, double glazing, and timer-controlled electric switches, as well as improvements to hot water distribution and heating pipework.
South Yorkshire Police
South Yorkshire Police has upgraded Wombwell Police Station by replacing the building’s coal-fired boiler with a ground source heat pump. Solar panels and heating controls were installed, while the energy efficiency of the station was improved through the installation of new double glazing and LED lighting.
Star Multi Academy Trust: Kirk Fenton Church of England Primary School, Tadcaster
Star Multi Academy Trust has installed a ground source heat pump at Kirk Fenton Church of England Primary School in Tadcaster. Solar panels were also installed to produce renewable electricity.
University of Bradford
The University of Bradford has implemented heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at the JB Priestley Library and the Student Central building, which houses the students’ union and student support services. An air source heat pump and solar panels were installed, while new LED lighting and energy-efficient ventilation fans, as well as enhanced controls for the building energy management system, have improved the overall energy efficiency of the site.
University of Leeds
University of Leeds has installed air source heat pumps at Brownlee Centre, a triathlon training facility on campus.
Wellspring Academy Trust, Barnsley
Wellspring Academy Trust has installed air source heat pumps at Lacey Gardens Junior Academy.
West Yorkshire Police
West Yorkshire Police has connected Trafalgar House Police Station in Bradford to an existing district heat network. As part of the project, solar panels were also installed to provide the station with a source of renewable energy.
North West
Challenge Academy Trust, Warrington
Challenge Academy Trust has supported the decarbonisation of five schools in the Warrington area: Broomfields Junior School, Meadowside Primary School, Bridgewater High School, Padgate Academy, and Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School. Across all sites, ground source heat pumps, cavity wall insulation, and roof insulation were installed to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
Cheshire College South & West, Chester
Cheshire College South & West has replaced the end-of-life gas boilers at their Chester campus with an air source heat pump. LED lighting was also installed.
Cheshire East Council
Cheshire East Council has delivered heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures in Bollington Cross CE Primary School, Dean Valley Community Primary School, Elworth CE Primary, Springfield Primary School, Wrenbury Primary School, High Legh Primary School, Millfield Primary School, South & District Primary School, Mobberley Primary School, Ruskin Community High School, and Dean Row Junior School. Air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting, double glazing, and new roof insulation were fitted across the sites.
Dean Trust, Cheshire
The Dean Trust in Cheshire has supported the decarbonisation of Park View School, Partington Central Primary School, and Blacklow Brow Primary School. Air source heat pumps were installed at all three schools, while solar panels and loft insulation were fitted at Park View School to help generate renewable energy and improve its overall energy efficiency.
Greater Manchester Academies Trust: Manchester Communication Academy
Greater Manchester Academies Trust has installed an air source heat pump, solar panels, and loft insulation at Manchester Communication Academy, a secondary school specialising in communication-related subjects.
Greater Manchester Combined Authority
The Greater Manchester Combined Authority has upgraded four buildings: Dial Park Primary School in Stockport, Shevington Library in Wigan, Castleton Community Centre and Library in Rochdale and Claremont Resource Centre in Manchester. Air source heat pumps were installed in all buildings and a range energy efficiency measures were also fitted across the sites, including solar panels, LED lighting, double glazing, and both roof and cavity wall insulation.
Liverpool City Council
Liverpool City Council has installed a combination of air source and water source heat pumps at the M&S Bank Arena, a venue that has hosted numerous world-renowned events, activities, and conferences, including the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. The arena is owned by the council and managed by The ACC Liverpool Group Ltd, a company established to operate the venue on the council’s behalf.
Liverpool Hope University
Liverpool Hope University has upgraded Angela Hall, a residence offering 51 shared-facility bedrooms for students. Air source heat pumps and electric panel heating have been installed, alongside dry wall lining to improve the energy efficiency of the halls of residence.
Loreto College, Manchester
Loreto College in Manchester has implemented heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at the Ball Building, a multipurpose facility for students. An air source heat pump, electric boiler and high efficiency motors were all installed.
Manchester Metropolitan University
Manchester Metropolitan University has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at the Birley Fields Energy Centre, which supplies heating and hot water through a district heat network to all buildings on the university’s Birley Fields campus. Ground source and water source heat pumps were installed along with an electric boiler. The heating distribution pipework was also upgraded to improve overall system efficiency.
Reaseheath College, Cheshire
Reaseheath College, an agricultural college in Cheshire, has replaced old oil-fired boilers at their Centrepoint building with an air source heat pump.
St Luke’s Church of England Primary School, Salford
St Luke’s Church of England Primary School in Salford has upgraded the heating systems in the school’s main building by installing an air source heat pump. Solar panels were also fitted to provide the school with a source of renewable energy. The overall energy efficiency of the site was improved through loft insulation, secondary glazing and draught proofing.
St Michael’s Church of England High School, Chorley
St Michael’s Church of England High School in Chorley has implemented heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across the sports hall and gym, music block, and training block. Air source heat pumps and loft insulation have been installed across the sites, alongside solar panels on the music block and a building energy management system in the sports hall and gym.
United Learning Trust
United Learning Trust has delivered four projects at Manchester Academy, Salford City Academy, Albion Academy, and Marlborough Road Academy. Air source heat pumps were installed at each school, and solar panels were fitted at all sites except Marlborough Road Academy. A range of energy efficiency measures were implemented across the schools, including LED lighting upgrades, cavity wall insulation, and enhancements to building energy management systems.
University of Manchester
The University of Manchester has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at its Zochonis Building, which houses the Age and Cognitive Performance Research Centre. An air source heat pump and solar panels were installed, along with new roof insulation, dry wall lining, high-efficiency fans, and LED lighting to improve the building’s overall energy efficiency.
Warrington Borough Council
Warrington Borough Council has upgraded Walton Hall, a Grade II listed country house that serves as an events space and wedding venue. Old fossil-fuel boilers were replaced with ground source heat pumps, while a new building energy management system was installed to improve the overall energy efficiency of the site.
East Midlands
Archway Learning Trust: Bluecoat Beechdale Academy, Nottingham
Archway Learning Trust has installed air source heat pumps and point-of-use heaters at Bluecoat Beechdale Academy, a secondary school located in Nottingham.
Ashfield District Council
Ashfield District Council has delivered two decarbonisation projects. Air source heat pumps were installed at the main council office in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and at Hucknall Leisure Centre. In addition, solar panels were fitted at the Kirkby office to provide the building with a source of renewable energy.
De Montfort University, Leicester
De Montfort University in Leicester has replaced ageing gas boilers in its Leicester Media School building, home to the university’s Animation and Game Art studios, with air source heat pumps. The heat pumps have been connected to the university’s energy monitoring system, which supplies data to students and researchers. As a result, the project is now providing mechanical engineering students with hands-on experience in low carbon energy systems that are shaping the future.
Erewash Borough Council
Erewash Borough Council has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at the Long Eaton Old Stables business centre. The gas boilers were replaced with electric underfloor heating, while new roof insulation, dry wall lining, and secondary glazing were installed to improve the building’s energy efficiency.
Gorseybrigg Primary School and Nursery, Derbyshire
Gorseybrigg Primary School and Nursery in Derbyshire has installed an air source heat pump and a back-up biomass boiler in the school. Solar panels were fitted to provide the site with a source of renewable energy, and the overall energy efficiency of the building has been improved through the installation of new loft and roof insulation, draught proofing, and upgrades to the heating distribution pipework.
High Peak Borough Council
High Peak Borough Council has installed decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at Buxton Swimming and Fitness Centre. Ageing gas boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps, while solar panels were installed to provide the centre with a source of renewable energy.
Nottinghamshire County Council
Nottinghamshire County Council has installed an air source heat pump at Sutton-Cum-Lound Church of England Primary School. The school’s energy efficiency was also improved through the installation of LED lighting and upgrades to the heating control system.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has replaced gas heating systems at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with a ground source heat pump. Extensive electrical infrastructure upgrades were also carried out, and double glazing was installed to improve the site’s overall energy efficiency.
Rushcliffe Borough Council
Rushcliffe Borough Council has installed energy efficiency and low carbon heating measures at Cotgrave Leisure Centre, previously one of the council’s highest carbon emitters. Air source heat pumps were installed to heat the leisure centre and swimming pool.
SMB College Group
SMB College Group has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency improvements at Brooksby Melton College, a further education institution in Melton Mowbray. Several buildings were upgraded including Brooksby Hall, a Grade II listed manor house. Water source heat pumps were installed to replace old gas-fired boilers, and solar panels were fitted on the office building roof. Additional energy efficiency improvements included LED lighting, double glazing, and loft insulation across the campus.
University of Leicester
The University of Leicester has installed a range of energy efficiency and low carbon heating measures at both the Attenborough Arts Centre and the Roger Bettles Sport Centre. These upgrades include the installation of air source heat pumps at both sites, and solar panels at the Roger Bettles Sport Centre. Additionally, both facilities have been fitted with new LED lighting and advanced building energy management systems to improve the overall energy efficiency of the sites.
UK Research and Innovation: Natural Environment Research Council
The Natural Environment Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation, has upgraded the heating systems at the James Hutton Building and the British Geological Survey site in Keyworth. Old fossil-fuel heating systems were replaced with ground source heat pumps, while improvements were also made to the hot water and heating distribution pipework. The installation of variable speed drives, new LED lighting, and building energy management systems has helped improve overall energy efficiency at both the sites.
UK Research and Innovation: Natural Environment Research Council is based in the South West and has invested this funding in the East Midlands.
West Northamptonshire Council
West Northamptonshire Council has installed a range of energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation upgrades across four leisure centres: Daventry Leisure Centre, Moulton Leisure Centre, Brackley Leisure Centre, and Towcester Centre for Leisure. As part of the improvements, ageing gas heating systems serving the swimming pool areas have been replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels were also fitted to provide a source of renewable electricity.
West Midlands
Birmingham City University
Birmingham City University has installed low carbon heating and energy efficiency measures in two of its buildings: the Pavilion Leisure Centre, the university’s main sports facility, and the Seacole Building, which houses the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences and the Defence School of Healthcare Education. A combination of air source and water source heat pumps were installed, as well as solar panels on both buildings to provide the site with a source of renewable energy. A variety of energy efficiency measures have also been installed, including new energy-efficient chillers in the Seacole Building and a new building energy management system in the Pavilion Leisure Centre.
Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has delivered two projects to support the decarbonisation of Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Parkview Clinic, which provides mental health services. At Birmingham Children’s Hospital, both a ground source and water source heat pump system were installed, as well as new double glazing. At Parkview Clinic, an air source and water source heat pump were fitted, along with new loft insulation.
Community Academies Trust, Tamworth
Community Academies Trust has carried out decarbonisation and energy efficiency upgrades at Polesworth School and Kingsway Primary School. Air source heat pumps and insulation were installed at both schools. In addition, solar panels were installed at Kingsway Primary School to provide a source of renewable energy, while electric heating and secondary glazing was installed at Polesworth School.
Coventry City Council
Coventry City Council has installed air source heat pumps at both Ravensdale Primary School and St Christopher’s Primary School.
Dudley College of Technology
Dudley College of Technology has installed air source heat pumps in its main building and improved the site’s energy efficiency by fitting new roof insulation and double glazing.
North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, Nuneaton
North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across four buildings at their Nuneaton Campus. An air source heat pump was installed to heat the buildings, while solar panels were fitted on three of the buildings to provide the college with a source of renewable energy. A range of energy efficiency measures were also completed, including the installation of new double glazing, LED lighting, cavity wall insulation, and roof insulation.
Reach2 Academy Trust, Burton-Upon-Trent
Reach2 Academy Trust has replaced end-of-life fossil fuel heating systems at Riverside Academy. Air source heat pumps were installed as well as new cavity wall insulation and double glazing.
Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has installed air source heat pumps across a number of buildings: West Park Hospital and New Cross Hospital at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Walsall Manor Hospital at Walsall NHS Trust, Sandwell General Hospital at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, and the training academy and hospital hub of the West Midlands Ambulance Service. The energy efficiency of these sites was also improved through the installation of new LED lighting, double glazing, roof insulation, and high-efficiency motors. Additionally, solar panels were installed at Sandwell General Hospital to provide a source of renewable energy.
South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust
South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has implemented heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across 21 buildings at both Warwick Hospital and Royal Leamington Spa Rehabilitation Hospital. A combination of air source and water source heat pumps were installed, while a range of energy efficiency measures were also fitted to improve the energy efficiency of the sites, including new external and cavity wall insulation, double glazing, LED lighting, and upgrades to the building energy management systems.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has upgraded Biddulph Valley Leisure Centre by installing air source heat pumps and fitting solar panels on the rooftop to provide the centre with a source of renewable energy.
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust has installed a water source heat pump at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Additionally, new double glazing and heating pipework insulation has been fitted to improve the hospital’s overall energy efficiency.
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust has installed air source heat pumps across four buildings at the Royal Stoke University Hospital: the Clinical Education Centre, the Undergraduate Medical School, the Academy staff training facility, and the linen store, which serves as the hospital’s main distribution centre for bedding. Old steam boilers were replaced with electric boilers, and both solar panels and LED lighting have been installed at the Clinical Education Centre and the Undergraduate Medical School to support renewable energy generation.
University of Warwick
The University of Warwick has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at the Computer Science Building at its Coventry campus. Ageing gas boilers have been replaced with air source heat pumps, while the overall energy efficiency of the building has been improved through the installation of new double glazing and roof and wall insulation.
Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council
Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council has upgraded two of its highest carbon-emitting buildings: the Civic Centre, a 1970s office building, and the Town Hall, a Grade II listed building constructed in 1903. Air source heat pumps and solar panels have been installed at both sites to reduce emissions and provide the buildings with a source of renewable energy.
East of England
Bedford Borough Council
Bedford Borough Council has upgraded King’s Oak Primary School by installing a range of low carbon heating and energy efficiency measures. Air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting, and cavity wall insulation have all been installed.
Bedford College Group
Bedford College Group has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at three buildings on their Shuttleworth Campus - the Learning Resources Centre, Russell Hall and Foyer, and one hall of residence. Air source heat pumps were installed at all three sites, while new air handling units, double glazing, and roof and wall insulation have improved the overall energy efficiency of the campus. The building energy management systems were also improved at each location.
Cambridgeshire County Council
Cambridgeshire County Council has delivered three projects to support the decarbonisation of six primary schools, two multifunctional buildings, Huntingdon Nursery, St Neots Library, Tennyson Lodge, and March Community Centre. Fossil-fuel heating systems were replaced with air source heat pumps at all locations, while solar panels were installed at some sites to provide them with a source of renewable energy. A range of energy efficiency measures were also implemented across the sites, including the fitting of new LED lighting, draught proofing, heating pipework insulation, and upgrades to building energy management systems.
Cranfield University
Cranfield University has connected Mitchell Hall, Cranfield Management Development Centre Hotel, and five halls of residence buildings to the existing district heat network. Thermal stores and building energy management systems were also installed to improve the university’s overall energy efficiency.
Darwin College, University of Cambridge
Darwin College, part of the University of Cambridge, has replaced old gas-fired boilers with new air source heat pumps at Frank Young House, a 28-bedroom student hall of residence.
Essex County Council
Essex County Council has installed low carbon heating and energy efficiency measures across seven primary schools, Colchester Central Library, Maryland’s Day Centre, Highfields Day Centre, and Shrubland Day Centre, which is designed specifically for adults with learning disabilities. End-of-life gas boilers have been replaced with air source heat pumps at all sites, while solar panels were installed across several buildings to provide them with a source of renewable energy. A variety of energy efficiency measures were also fitted across the sites, including new double glazing and loft, roof, and wall insulation.
London Borough of Newham
The London Borough of Newham has upgraded the main building at Fairplay House Outdoor Education Centre, a residential activity centre in rural Essex operated by the borough for school pupils from the borough. Old fossil-fuel boilers were replaced with an air source heat pump, and the site’s overall energy efficiency was improved through the installation of heating pipework insulation, enhancements to the hot water distribution system and an upgrade to the building energy management system.
London Borough of Newham is based in Greater London and has invested this funding in the East of England.
Luton Borough Council
Luton Borough Council has delivered two projects to install air source heat pumps at Rothesay Nursery School and Stopsley Primary Community School. Solar panels were also installed at both sites. The energy efficiency of the schools was improved through the installation of new LED lighting, double glazing, loft and wall insulation, pipework insulation, heating controls, and upgraded building energy management systems.
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has supported the decarbonisation of several hospital buildings, including its MRI scanning unit, the orthopaedic unit, and the paediatric assessment unit. Old gas and oil-fired boilers have been replaced with electric point-of-use heaters. The energy efficiency of the hospital site was also improved through the installation of new double glazing and the replacement of air handling units.
Pembroke College, University of Cambridge
Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge has delivered two projects, one at Foundress Court, a university building providing student accommodation and lecture spaces, and another at 26 Barton Road, a seven-bedroom student hall of residence. Air source heat pumps were installed in both buildings. The energy efficiency of the buildings was improved through an upgrade to the building energy management system at Foundress Court and through the installation of new wall, floor, and roof insulation, draught proofing, and double glazing at 26 Barton Road.
South Norfolk District Council
South Norfolk District Council has installed air source and water source heat pumps at Diss Leisure Centre and the Council’s headquarters at the Horizon Centre, as well as a ground source heat pump at Kestrel House, which provides temporary accommodation. Solar panels were also installed at Diss Leisure Centre and Kestrel House to provide the sites with a source of renewable energy. The energy efficiency of Diss Leisure Centre was also improved through the installation of external wall and roof insulation.
St Mary’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, Essex
St Mary’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School in Essex has replaced end-of-life gas boilers with air source heat pumps. Solar panels were also installed and the energy efficiency of the buildings was improved through fitting new LED lighting and loft insulation in the classrooms.
Tollesbury School, Essex
Tollesbury School in Essex has installed low carbon heating and energy efficiency measures for the school’s main building, originally constructed in the 19th century. A ground source heat pump has been installed to replace old oil-fired boilers. Energy efficiency measures undertaken include the fitting of new roof, cavity wall, and draught-proofing insulation, the installation of LED lighting, and the replacement of single glazed windows with new double glazing. Solar panels were also installed on the roof of the main building to provide the school with a source of renewable energy.
University of Cambridge
The University of Cambridge has replaced end-of-life gas boilers at Keynes House, a university building, with air source heat pumps.
South East
Adur and Worthing Councils
Adur and Worthing Councils supported the decarbonisation of several buildings, including the Grade II-listed Worthing Town Hall, Worthing Assembly Hall, Portland House office building, and the historic Connaught Theatre & Studio, one of the UK’s oldest cinemas. All buildings were be connected to the Worthing Heat Network, which uses a pump system to convert heat from wastewater in the local sewer into sustainable energy. Solar panels were installed at the Connaught Theatre & Studio. Additionally, double glazing, secondary glazing, LED lighting, draught proofing, and loft insulation to improve energy efficiency.
Brasenose College, University of Oxford
Brasenose College at the University of Oxford has installed decarbonisation and energy efficiency improvements at Frewin Hall, a Grade II listed student hall of residence. Ageing gas heating systems were replaced with ground source heat pumps, and new floor insulation, dry wall lining, loft insulation, double glazing, and heat recovery systems have improved the overall energy efficiency of the site.
Canterbury City Council
Canterbury City Council has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at Kingsmead Leisure Centre. Air source heat pumps and solar panels have been installed, while new air handling units and LED lighting have been fitted to improve the overall energy efficiency of the building.
Dartford Borough Council
Dartford Borough Council has upgraded Fairfield Leisure Centre by replacing old gas-fired boilers with air source heat pumps. Additionally, solar panels, LED lighting and lighting controls and a new building energy management system were installed to improve the energy efficiency of the site.
Diocese of Guildford
The Diocese of Guildford has installed new air source heat pumps in 46 buildings across 21 schools. Additionally, double glazing was fitted in one of the school buildings to improve its energy efficiency.
East Sussex County Council
East Sussex County Council has upgraded six primary schools: Rotherfield Primary School, Plumpton Primary School, Bodiam Primary School, Hellingly Primary School, Rocks Park Primary School and Chiddingly Primary School. At all schools, fossil-fuelled heating systems were replaced with air source heat pumps, while the energy efficiency of the school buildings was improved through the installation of roof insulation and energy-efficient ventilation fans. At Rotherfield Primary School, new LED lighting was also installed.
Farnborough College of Technology, Hampshire
Farnborough College of Technology in Hampshire has installed ground source heat pumps as well as solar panels, which provide the site with a source of renewable energy. The building’s energy performance has also been improved through the fitting of new roof insulation and an upgraded building energy management system.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has upgraded Bordon Fire Station by replacing its old gas heating system with air source heat pumps and electric heating. Solar panels were also fitted to provide the station with a source of renewable energy. New heating controls, LED lighting, double glazing, and roof and external wall insulation have also improved the overall energy efficiency of the site.
Kent County Council
Kent County Council has delivered two projects which have supported the decarbonisation of five sites: Dover Discovery Centre, which houses Dover Library; the Yew Tree Centre, which provides day care services; Ashford Gateway Plus adult learning centre; Oxford Road office building; and Worrall House administrative office. Air source heat pumps were installed at all of the sites, while solar panels were fitted at the Oxford Road office building. In addition, the energy efficiency of each building was improved through the installation of new building energy management systems, double glazing, and LED lighting.
Linacre College, University of Oxford
Linacre College in Oxford has installed air source heat pumps at the Obert Clark Tanner building, an administrative facility that also accommodates catering services, and at the Bamborough, Griffiths, and Abraham student residential buildings.
MidKent College, Kent
MidKent College has implemented energy efficiency and low carbon heating measures across two of their campuses in Medway and Maidstone, Kent. At its Maidstone campus, old gas boilers have been replaced with ground source heat pumps, while air source heat pumps were installed at the Medway campus. Solar panels were fitted at both campus sites to provide them with a source of renewable energy, while the overall energy efficiency of the college was improved through the installation of new building energy management systems.
Mountbatten Secondary School, Hampshire
Mountbatten Secondary School in Hampshire has installed an air source heat pump and solar panels.
Norton Knatchball School, Ashford
Norton Knatchbull School in Ashford has installed energy and low carbon heating measures across several of its buildings, including the sports hall and the three-storey main building extension. Air source heat pumps have been installed as well as solar panels, which provides the school with a source of renewable energy. To improve energy efficiency, new loft, cavity wall, and pipework insulation was fitted, while upgrades were made to the building energy management system.
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has delivered two decarbonisation projects at John Radcliffe Hospital, a teaching hospital in Oxford, and at Horton General Hospital. Air source heat pumps and solar panels have been installed at both hospitals. At John Radcliffe Hospital, energy efficiency measures undertaken include the installation of new draught proofing, pipework insulation and upgrades to air fans and the building energy management system, while at Horton General Hospital, new pipework insulation was installed in the main corridor and the plant building.
Pembroke College, University of Oxford
Pembroke College at the University of Oxford has upgraded the Sir Geoffrey Arthur accommodation building and the College’s Grade II listed dining hall, originally constructed in 1848. Air source heat pumps were installed in both buildings, and new double glazing and draught proofing measures were installed in the dining hall to improve energy efficiency.
Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has delivered three projects by installing heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency upgrades across three sites: Lawns Nursery, Chiltern Road School, and the Windsor Guildhall, a Grade I listed building. At Lawns Nursery, an air source heat pump and double glazing were installed. At Chiltern Road School, an air source heat pump was fitted in the main building as well as double glazing, roof insulation, and cavity wall insulation. At Windsor Guildhall, air source heat pumps and draught proofing measures were implemented.
South Oxfordshire District Council
South Oxfordshire District Council has installed air source heat pumps and solar panels at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot.
St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, Horsham
St Peter’s Church of England Primary School in Horsham has replaced end-of-life oil-fired boilers with a ground source heat pump. The energy efficiency of the building has been improved through the installation of draught proofing, cavity wall insulation, roof insulation, and double glazing.
Surrey County Council
Surrey County Council has delivered two projects to upgrade a range of Council buildings, including four fire stations, Shepperton Youth Centre, three primary schools, and the Ruth House residential home, a home for children and young people with learning or neurodevelopmental disabilities. A combination of air source and ground heat pumps were installed across the sites, while draught proofing, loft insulation, LED lighting, lighting controls, double glazing and cavity wall insulation measures were fitted across the sites to improve energy efficiency.
Test Valley Borough Council
Test Valley Borough Council has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at its Bourne House office building in Romsey. Old gas-fired boilers have been replaced with air source heat pumps and an electric panel heater. The building was also fitted with solar panels to provide a source of renewable energy, as well as new LED lighting, dry wall lining, cavity wall insulation, and a building energy management system to improve its energy efficiency.
Trinity College, University of Oxford
Trinity College at the University of Oxford has upgraded its Grade II listed Jackson Building, which houses the college’s guest rooms. Old gas heating systems have been replaced with a ground source heat pump, while the energy efficiency of the building has been improved through the installation of draught proofing, loft insulation and double glazing.
University for the Creative Arts
The University for the Creative Arts has delivered two projects to support the decarbonisation of its Farnham and Epsom campuses, including its libraries and main buildings. Fossil fuel boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps at both locations. Solar panels were fitted to provide the campuses with a source of renewable energy, while new roofing insulation and building energy management systems were also installed to improve energy efficiency.
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust has supported the decarbonisation of Southampton General Hospital and the Princess Anne Hospital through the installation of air source and water source heat pumps. Solar panels have also been fitted. Energy efficiency measures undertaken include insulation improvements through new double glazing in the oldest wings of the hospitals, as well as pipework and ventilation upgrades and the installation of new LED lighting.
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust has connected Worthing Hospital to Worthing Heat Network, a privately funded heat network in Worthing town centre. Solar panels have also been installed to provide a source of renewable energy for the hospital.
University of Oxford
The University of Oxford has replaced end-of-life gas boilers at Saïd Business School with air source heat pumps.
University of Portsmouth
The University of Portsmouth has installed air source heat pumps in its Anglesea Building (which houses the Department of Engineering), the Harry Law student halls of residence, and at the university library. LED lighting was also installed in the Anglesea Building and the university library to help improve the energy efficiency of the campus.
University of Reading
The University of Reading has carried out work to decarbonise its ‘SportsPark’, which consists of a sports hall and a squash court. Old gas heating systems have been replaced with an air source and water source heat pump, both of which have been connected to the existing district heating system. Additionally, heating pipework insulation, high-efficiency motors, and motor controls were installed to improve energy efficiency.
Vale of White Horse District Council
Vale of White Horse District Council has installed a range of heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency upgrades at Wantage Leisure Centre and White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre. At both sites, old gas-fired boilers have been replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels have been installed to provide a source of renewable energy. External wall insulation and double glazing has also been fitted at Wantage Leisure Centre to improve energy efficiency.
West Sussex County Council
West Sussex County Council has installed air source heat pumps in 21 buildings, including nine libraries, six fire stations and six social care facilities.

Bath and North East Somerset Council
Bath and North East Somerset Council has installed air source heat pumps at both Cleeve Court and Combe Lea care homes.
Bournemouth University
Bournemouth University has installed air source heat pumps in Dorset House on its Talbot Campus, home to the Doctoral College.
Churchill Academy and Sixth Form, Winscombe
Churchill Academy and Sixth Form has upgraded its sixth form and main hall buildings by replacing old gas-fired boilers with air source heat pumps and electric heating. Double glazing and external wall insulation was also installed to improve the energy efficiency of the school site.
Corsham School Academy Group, Wiltshire
Corsham School Academy Group in Wiltshire has upgraded five buildings at Corsham School by replacing old gas-fired boilers with biomass boilers. LED lighting, as well as new wall and roof insulation, was installed to improve the overall energy efficiency of the school site.
Ministry of Justice
The Ministry of Justice has installed decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at two residential blocks at HMP Eastwood Park, a women’s prison in South Gloucestershire. Old oil-fired boilers were replaced with an air source heat pump. Additional measures installed include new building energy management systems, high efficiency motor replacements, hot water flow restrictors, double glazing, and cavity wall insulation.
The Ministry of Justice is based in Greater London and has invested this funding in the South West.
Palladian Academy Trust: St Martin’s Garden Primary School, Bath
Palladian Academy Trust has installed air source heat pumps and solar panels at St Martin’s Garden Primary School in Bath.
Plymouth CAST Multi Academy Trust: St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Penzance
Plymouth CAST Multi Academy Trust has installed air source heat pumps and an electric boiler at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Penzance. Solar panels have been fitted to provide the school with a source of renewable energy and new LED lighting and roof insulation has also been fitted to improve the energy efficiency of the site.
Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust
Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across several buildings at Salisbury District Hospital, including the Spinal Treatment Centre and the hospital leisure centre, Odstock Health and Fitness. Water source heat pumps have been installed in each building, while solar panels have been fitted across the hospital site to provide a source of renewable energy. The overall energy efficiency has been improved through new insulation, double glazing, LED lighting, and upgrades to the building energy management system.
Somerset West and Taunton District Council
Somerset West and Taunton District Council has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at Wellington Sports Centre and Alcombe Children’s Centre. Old gas-fired heating and water systems have been replaced with air source heat pumps. The fitting of solar panels has provided both centres with a source of renewable energy, and new LED lighting, double glazing, and roof insulation have improved overall energy efficiency of both buildings.
South Gloucestershire Council
South Gloucestershire Council has installed air source heat pumps as three schools: St Stephen’s Junior School, Barrs Court Primary School, and Wick Primary School. Energy-efficient convection ovens were also installed at two of the schools.
St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Malmesbury
St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Malmesbury has replaced an old gas-fired boiler with an air source heat pump. Solar panels were also fitted, along with loft and cavity wall insulation.
Stroud District Council
Stroud District Council has upgraded Stratford Park Leisure Centre, the Pulse Leisure Centre, and the Museum in the Park. Old fossil-fuel boilers at all three sites were replaced with air source heat pumps. Additionally, cavity wall insulation was installed at Stratford Park Leisure Centre to improve its energy performance.
Teignbridge District Council
Teignbridge District Council has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at Broadmeadow Sports Centre in Teignmouth, South Devon. Gas-fired heating systems have been replaced with an air source heat pump, while double glazing, and wall and roof insulation have been installed to improve the overall energy efficiency of the centre.
Tewkesbury Borough Council
Tewkesbury Borough Council has upgraded its head office building by installing air source heat pumps to replace ageing gas boilers. The building energy management system was also upgraded.
Torbay Council
Torbay Council has replaced an end-of-life gas boiler at Watcombe Nursery with an air source heat pump.
University of Exeter
The University of Exeter has upgraded its multi-purpose Cornwall House building and the biosciences greenhouse, installing a combination of air source and water source heat pumps across both sites.
University of Plymouth
The University of Plymouth has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at its Fitzroy building, which houses the university’s Business School. Ageing gas-fired boilers have been replaced with air source heat pumps and electric heaters. Solar panels were also fitted to provide the building with a source of renewable energy, and the overall energy efficiency of the site was improved through the installation of wall insulation, LED lighting and a new building energy management system.
University of the West of England, Bristol
The University of the West of England has connected six academic buildings and the Wallscourt Park halls of residence to an existing heat network at its Frenchay campus in Bristol.

Home Office
The Home Office has replaced gas-fired boilers with an air source heat pump and an electric heater at its immigration reporting centre at Eaton House in Hounslow. Loft and draught insulation were also installed, and the building energy management system was upgraded.
Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine
Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at its Clinical Research Building for the National Heart and Lung Institute, part of the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. Old gas heating systems have been replaced with air source and water source heat pumps and an electric boiler. LED lighting, roof insulation and double glazing was also fitted to improve the energy efficiency of the site.
London Borough of Camden
London Borough of Camden has delivered three projects to support the decarbonisation of Hampstead Secondary School, the Grade II listed Highgate Library, West Hampstead Library, Netherwood Day Centre, and Waterlow Park visitor centre. Air source heat pumps were installed in all buildings except for Waterlow Park visitor centre, where an electric panel heater was installed instead. Energy efficiency improvements across the sites included the fitting of LED lighting, double glazing, dry wall lining, draught proofing and loft insulation.
London Borough of Ealing
London Borough of Ealing has delivered two projects by carrying out heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at three leisure centres, two high schools, and four primary schools. Air source heat pumps were installed at all sites, while water source heat pumps were also installed at the leisure centres. Cavity wall insulation was also fitted in the two high schools and in two of the primary schools to improve their energy efficiency.
London Borough of Hackney
London Borough of Hackney has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at Stoke Newington Town Hall, Holmleigh Primary School, two secondary schools, and three leisure centres including London Fields Lido. Old gas heating systems were replaced with air source and ground source heat pumps, while solar thermal systems were installed at a majority of sites. At Holmleigh Primary School, roof insulation was fitted to improve the overall energy efficiency of the school site.
London Borough of Hounslow Council
London Borough of Hounslow Council has supported the decarbonisation of a nursing home and four schools: Norwood Green Infant and Nursery School, Cardinal Road Infant and Nursery, Crane Park Primary School, and Southville Primary School. End-of-life fossil fuel heating systems at all sites were replaced with air source heat pumps, while solar thermal systems were installed in three of the schools. A water source heat pump was also installed in the nursing home. Cavity wall insulation was fitted in three of the schools to improve their overall energy efficiency.
London Borough of Hillingdon
London Borough of Hillingdon installed air source heat pumps at four of its highest carbon-emitting buildings: the Civic Centre, Winston Churchill Hall and Theatre, Highgrove Leisure Centre, and Hillingdon Leisure Centre. A range of energy efficiency measures were also fitted across the buildings, including new double glazing, secondary glazing, and loft and cavity wall insulation.
London Borough of Islington
London Borough of Islington delivered two projects to upgrade King Henry’s Walk, a nursing home providing support services for people with learning disabilities, and Archway Leisure Centre. Old gas-fired boilers were replaced with air source and water source heat pumps. Solar panels were also installed at both sites to provide a source of renewable energy. Improvements to the building energy management systems and heating pipework, as well as the installation of cooling control systems and heating controls, have improved the overall energy efficiency of the sites.
London Borough of Lambeth
London Borough of Lambeth has delivered two projects to install low carbon heating at several schools and leisure centres. Ageing fossil-fuel heating systems have been replaced with a combination of air source and water source heat pumps, while some schools also had solar panels fitted to provide them with a source of renewable energy. Upgrades to heating pipework, hot water flow restrictors, heat storage, variable speed drives, as well as new draught proofing, wall, loft and floor insulation, double glazing and LED lighting have all improved the overall energy efficiency of the sites.
London Borough of Merton
London Borough of Merton has upgraded the Borough’s largest building, the 15-storey Civic Centre in Morden town centre. End-of-life gas boilers have been replaced with air source heat pumps, while the energy efficiency of the building was improved by upgrading the hot water supply to point-of-use heaters.
London Borough of Newham
London Borough of Newham has installed air source heat pumps at Fairplay House, an outdoor education centre. Additionally, new heating control valves, pipework insulation and a building energy management system were installed to improve the energy efficiency of the centre.
London Borough of Sutton
London Borough of Sutton has installed an air source heat pump, electric heaters, solar panels, cavity wall insulation, double glazing and LED lighting at Sutton Youth Centre.
London Fire Brigade
The London Fire Brigade has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at five fire stations: Bethnal Green Fire Station, Chelsea Fire Station, Edmonton Fire Station, Hainault Fire Station and Islington Fire Station. Ageing fossil-fuel gas boilers at all sites were replaced with air source heat pumps, while solar panels were installed at both Bethnal Green and Chelsea Fire Stations to provide them with a source of renewable energy. A range of energy efficiency measures were also installed across the sites, including the fitting of new cavity wall insulation, draught proofing, roof insulation, double glazing and LED lighting.
Metropolitan Police Service
The Metropolitan Police Service has installed air source heat pumps at 14 police stations across London. Additional electric heating was also installed at one site.
New City College Group
New City College Group has supported the decarbonisation of its Redbridge Campus in Romford. Old gas heating systems have been replaced with air source heat pumps. Additionally, an electric heater and point-of-use electric water heater was also installed.
Newham College of Further Education
Newham College of Further Education has installed an air source heat pump and an electric boiler at its Stratford Campus in East London.
Royal Borough of Greenwich
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has installed air source heat pumps and draught proofing in seven primary schools: Cardwell Primary School, Ealdham Primary School, Haimo Primary School Junior, Haimo Primary School for Infants, Newhaven School, Conway Primary School, and Alexander McLeod Primary School.
Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has upgraded five sites: Chelsea Sports Centre, All Saints Catholic College, Avondale Park Primary School, Colville Primary School, and St Francis of Assisi Primary School. Air source heat pumps were installed at the three primary schools, while Chelsea Sports Centre and All Saints Catholic College were fitted with water source heat pumps.
Transport for London
Transport for London has supported the decarbonisation of the Therapia Lane Tramlink depot, a tram facility in Croydon, through the installation of air source heat pumps, infrared panel heaters, and point-of-use electric water heaters. Solar panels have also been installed to provide the depot with a source of renewable energy. The overall energy efficiency of the site has been improved through the fitting of a new ventilation system, roof insulation, and LED lighting.
Westminster City Council
Westminster City Council has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across eight buildings -two primary schools, three community centres, two libraries, and Seymour Leisure Centre. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed across all sites, while a range of energy efficiency measures were also installed in five of the buildings. Measures installed include heating pipework insulation, double glazing, draught proofing, building energy management systems and LED lighting.

Department for Work and Pensions
The Department for Work and Pensions has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at five offices based in Fofar, Chester, Hoxton, Rutherglen and Sunderland. Gas-fired boilers at all sites were replaced with air source heat pumps, while solar panels were fitted at the offices in Chester, Hoxton, Rutherglen to provide renewable energy. Energy efficiency improvements fitted across the sites included new LED lighting, building energy management system loft and cavity wall insulation, and double glazing.
Harris Federation
Harris Federation has installed air source heat pumps in 11 schools. These included four primary schools: Harris Primary Academies Peckham Park, Croydon, Benson, and Harris Garrard Academy; and seven secondary schools: Harris Academies Bermondsey, Chafford Hundred, Merton, South Norwood, Peckham, Rainham, and Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich.
Royal Botanic Gardens
The Royal Botanic Gardens has installed low carbon heating measures across six buildings at its Wakehurst estate in West Sussex, home of the Millennium Seed Bank. Oil-fired boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps and electric point-of-use heaters, while the energy efficiency of the six buildings was improved through the fitting of new loft insulation.
Scotland
Home Office
The Home Office has installed air source heat pumps at its Festival Court office buildings in Glasgow, a centre for visas and immigration. The energy efficiency of the building has also been improved through upgrades to the building energy management system, draught proofing and loft insulation.
The Home Office is based in Greater London and has invested this funding in Scotland.
