North East

Durham County Council

Durham County Council has been awarded £389,062 to decarbonise Meadowfield Depot, one of the Council’s MOT testing centres. Air source heat pumps will be installed to heat the canteen, welfare centre and offices that are on the site, and new energy-efficient air handling units will be fitted. Upgrades will also be made to the building energy management system.

Durham University

Durham University has been awarded £1,127,202 to decarbonise Boldon House office building. The existing end-of-life gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed to provide a source of renewable energy. The energy efficiency of the building will also be improved through the installation of double glazing and roof insulation.

Home Office

The Home Office has been awarded £1,298,509 to decarbonise an accommodation building, the Cannock Building, at the College of Policing in Ryton. Gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, insulation and LED lighting will be installed, and upgrades will be made to the building energy management system.

The Home Office is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in the North East.

HM Courts and Tribunals Service

HM Courts and Tribunals Service in Durham has been awarded £160,391 to decarbonise the Durham Justice Centre. Existing gas boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump and solar panels will be installed. New LED lighting, cavity wall insulation and new building energy management systems will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the site.

Newcastle City Council

Newcastle City Council has been awarded £17,855,783 to decarbonise 24 buildings across 14 sites, including Newcastle College, Laing Art Gallery, Connie Lewcook House Nursing Home, Slatyford Children’s Home and Kenton Academy Secondary School, as well as 2 community centres and 5 primary schools. Air source heat pumps will be installed in 11 buildings, while 7 sites will be connected to the district heating network. Solar panels will also be installed in eleven buildings. Energy efficiency measures including the installation of cavity wall insulation, building energy management systems, double glazing, LED lighting, loft insulation, thermal stores and speed drives will be undertaken across multiple buildings.

Newcastle College Group

Newcastle College Group has been awarded £850,777 to decarbonise Kidderminster College. End-of-life gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed on the south side of the building. The fixture of LED lighting, new lighting controls and heating pipework insulation will also improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded £678,487 to replace existing gas boilers with air source heat pumps at the Regent Point site, which is an office base for clinical teams houses a research office. Solar panels will be installed and the energy efficiency of the site will also be improved through the installation of LED lighting and building energy management systems.

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, Durham

The North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £13,412,114 to replace the existing gas fired heating systems with a ground source heat pump. The existing steam calorifier will also be replaced with a plate heat exchanger and solar panels will be installed to provide a source of renewable energy. New LED lighting, cooling systems and an air handling unit will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the site.

Northumbria Police

Northumbria Police has been awarded £608,052 for 2 projects to replace gas-fired heaters and boilers with air and water source heat pumps at Whickham and Alnwick Police Stations. Light fixtures will be upgraded to LED lighting, double glazing will be installed, the building energy management system will be upgraded, and loft insulation will be fitted at both sites.

Northumbria University, Newcastle

Northumbria University has been awarded £1,943,490 to decarbonise the library, the reception buildings, and the Sports Centre at Coach Lane East campus. The end-of-life gas heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps. At the library and reception, solar panels and LED lighting will also be installed.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has been awarded £544,297 to support the decarbonisation of Highcliffe Primary School. An air source heat pump will replace old gas fired boilers and a variety of energy efficiency improvements will be installed, including pipework improvements, a new building energy management system, storage for excess heat, and variable speed drives, which help control the flow of energy and automatically reduces its use when not required.

Teesside University

Teesside University has been awarded £875,000 to replace the existing gas heating systems at Woodlands Halls student accommodation with air source heat pumps and electric boilers. Cavity wall and loft insulation, and double glazing, will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings.

Yorkshire and the Humber

Bishop Burton College, East Riding

Bishop Burton College in East Riding has been awarded £783,849 to support the decarbonisation of its main campus building, which houses its estates team, Human Resources, IT support teams and student accommodation on its upper floors. An air source heat pump will be installed alongside energy efficiency improvements through the fitting of loft and cavity wall insulation as well as new double glazing.

Hull Collaborative Academy Trust: Dorchester Primary School, Bransholme

Hull Collaborative Academy Trust has been awarded £688,318 to replace 11 gas boilers with new air source heat pumps at Dorchester Primary School in Bransholme. Solar panels will also be installed to provide a source of renewable energy.

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £1,879,917 to upgrade Alfred Bean Hospital, Hornsea Cottage Hospital, and 2 sites providing mental health outpatient services: St Andrews Place clinic and Westend clinic. Air source heat pumps and LED lighting will be installed in each site, and insulation will be installed at each site except for Westend clinic.

Leeds City Council

Leeds City Council has been awarded £10,182,458 for 2 projects to decarbonise 12 schools, a sixth form college, 2 leisure centres and 5 heritage sites across the local authority, including Armley Mills, which houses Leeds Industrial Museum. Gas-fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all sites and a variety of energy efficiency measures will also be installed, including improvements to the heating distribution pipework and the installation of insulation, hot water flow restrictors, heat storage and building energy management systems.

Luminate Education Group, Leeds

Luminate Education Group has been awarded £1,676,987 to replace old gas-fired boilers at Leeds Conservatoire, a specialist music and performing arts college, and subsequently connect the site to an existing heating network. Energy efficiency improvements include the installation of double glazing and new LED lighting, as well as the replacement of air handling units and the building’s cooling system.

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded £834,243 to decarbonise 3 buildings: the Ashton Centre at Pinderfields Hospital, and Woodkirk House and Cullingworth Nurses Home at Dewsbury District Hospital. Air source heat pumps, loft insulation and building energy management system upgrades will be installed in all 3 buildings, and solar panels will also be installed at Woodkirk House and Cullingworth Nurses Home to generate renewable energy.

North Yorkshire County Council

North Yorkshire County Council has been awarded £425,288 to replace old fossil fuel boilers with air source heat pumps at 4 North Yorkshire Highway Depots in Boroughbridge, Kirby Misperton, Selby and Whitby.

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has been awarded £3,147,387 to decarbonise 5 buildings across their estate: Clifton Park Museum, the Civic Theatre, Town Hall, Orchard Centre Children’s Centre and Riverside House. All buildings will be connected to the Rotherham heat network and solar panels will be installed at the Civic Centre and Clifton Park Museum. A range of energy efficiency measures will be installed across the sites, including hot water distribution and heating pipework improvements, wall insulation, new LED lighting, building energy management systems, double glazing and timer controlled electric switches.

South Yorkshire Police

South Yorkshire Police has been awarded £536,554 to decarbonise Wombwell Police Station. The building’s coal fired boiler will be replaced with a ground source heat pump, solar panels and heating controls will be installed, and double glazing, LED lighting and loft insulation will improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Star Multi Academy Trust: Kirk Fenton Church of England Primary School, Tadcaster

Star Multi Academy Trust has been awarded £323,667 to install a ground source heat pump at Kirk Fenton Church of England Primary School in Tadcaster. Solar panels will also be installed to produce renewable electricity, and double-glazed windows will be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the school.

University of Bradford

The University of Bradford has been awarded £2,473,000 to decarbonise the JB Priestley Library and the Student Central building, which holds the students’ union and student support services. An air source heat pump and solar panels will be installed, alongside a variety of energy efficiency measures such as LED lighting, upgrades to the air handling units, energy efficient ventilation fans, and the addition of controls to the building energy management system.

University of Leeds

The University of Leeds has been awarded £1,375,000 for 2 projects to decarbonise the Brownlee Centre, a triathlon training centre, and the Conference Auditorium building, the largest capacity building on the university campus. Air source heat pumps will be installed in both buildings, and LED lighting and insulation will also be installed at the Conference Auditorium building.

University of Sheffield

The University of Sheffield has been awarded £737,236 to replace gas fired heating and hot water systems with air source heat pumps systems at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience, one of the world leading centres for research into Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease.

Wellspring Academy Trust, Barnsley

Wellspring Academy Trust has been awarded £1,030,181 for 2 projects to decarbonise Horncastle Primary School and Lacey Gardens Junior Academy. The existing end-of-life gas boilers at both schools will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels, LED lighting and a building energy management system will also be installed at Lacey Gardens Junior Academy.

West Yorkshire Police

West Yorkshire Police has been awarded £2,765,295 to connect Trafalgar House Police station in Bradford to an existing district heating network. Solar panels will be installed, and improvements will be made to the hot water distribution and heating distribution pipework.

North West

Challenge Academy Trust, Warrington

The Challenge Academy Trust has been awarded £5,088,719 to support the decarbonisation of 2 primary schools and 3 secondary schools in the Warrington area: Broomfields Junior School, Meadowside Primary School, Bridgewater High School, Padgate Academy and Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School. Ground source heat pumps and both cavity wall and roof insulation will be installed on all sites.

Cheshire College South and West, Chester

Cheshire College South & West has been awarded £1,962,922 to replace the existing end-of-life gas boilers at their Chester campus with an air source heat pump and an electric hot water boiler.

Cheshire East Council

Cheshire East Council has been awarded £6,863,805 for 2 projects to decarbonise 7 schools and 4 other sites within the Council’s portfolio. This includes the Lyceum Theatre, Crewe Crematorium, West Park Museum and Tatton Park. Air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting, an electric boiler and roof insulation upgrades will be made across the sites.

Dean Trust, Cheshire

The Dean Trust in Cheshire has been awarded £924,852 to support the decarbonisation of 3 schools: Park View School, Partington Central Primary and Blacklow Brow Primary School. Existing gas fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all schools, while solar panels and loft insulation will also be fitted at Park View School.

Department for Education

The Department for Education has been awarded £2,493,852 to upgrade 2 primary schools and 2 secondary schools: Bridgewater Park Primary School in Runcorn, Beacon Church of England Primary School in Liverpool, Kirkby Stephen Grammar School, and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School. Heat pumps will be installed in each of the schools, alongside energy efficiency measures such as roof insulation, cavity wall insulation, double glazing, and secondary glazing.

Greater Manchester Academies Trust: Manchester Communication Academy

Greater Manchester Academies Trust has been awarded £1,327,813 to install an air source heat pump, solar panels, and loft insulation at Manchester Communication Academy, a secondary school which specialises in communication-related subjects.

Greater Manchester Combined Authority

Greater Manchester Combined Authority has been awarded £1,772,469 to upgrade 8 buildings: Eccles Town Hall, Woodhouse Park Leisure Centre, Dial Park Primary School in Stockport, Shevington library, an office building at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and 3 other council office buildings. A heat pump will be installed in all the buildings except for the office building at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, where an electric boiler and an electric panel heater will be installed. Point-of-use electric water heaters will also be installed in 2 of the council office buildings. A variety of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the buildings, including solar panels, LED lighting, double glazing, roof insulation and cavity wall insulation.

Hopwood Hall College, Rochdale

Hopwood Hall College in Rochdale has been awarded £2,893,620 to replace existing gas heating systems with ground and air source heat pumps at its Ashworth, Smallbridge and Henry West buildings. Solar panels will also be installed to provide the college with a source of renewable energy, and a building energy management system will be fitted at the Henry West building to improve its overall energy efficiency.

Liverpool City Council

Liverpool City Council has been awarded £1,369,801 to replace gas fired boilers with water source and air source heat pumps at the M&S Bank Arena, which has hosted many world-renowned activities, events and conferences, and will host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. The arena is owned by Liverpool City Council and managed by The ACC Liverpool Group Ltd, which was set up as a management company to run it on the council’s behalf.

Liverpool Hope University

Liverpool Hope University has been awarded £441,068 to install an air source heat pump at Angela Hall, which provides 51 shared facility bedrooms for students. Solar panels will be fitted to provide the building with a source of renewable energy, and dry wall lining will be added to improve the energy efficiency of the halls of residence.

Loreto College, Manchester

Loreto College in Manchester has been awarded £393,725 to decarbonise one of their 7 buildings, the Ball building. The existing gas boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump and point-of-use electric water heaters. The energy efficiency of the building will also be improved through an upgrade to the air handling unit.

Manchester Metropolitan University

Manchester Metropolitan University has been awarded £5,633,746 to decarbonise the Birley Fields Energy Centre, which provides heating and hot water through a district heat network to all buildings at the university’s Birley Fields campus. Ground source and water source heat pumps will be installed, alongside an electric boiler, and energy efficiency improvements will be made to the heating distribution pipework.

Ministry of Justice

The Ministry of Justice has been awarded £15,814,235 to support the decarbonisation of HMP Risley in Warrington, the last remaining coal fired prison in the country. The 3 existing coal boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Single glazed windows across the site will be replaced with double glazed units, and improvements to roof insulation will reduce heat waste across the site. A new site-wide building energy management system will also be installed.

The Ministry of Justice is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in the North West.

Mount St. Joseph, Bolton

Mount St. Joseph school in Bolton has been awarded £727,780 to decarbonise the school’s main building. The existing gas heating systems will be replaced with an air source heat pump and electric point-of-use heaters. Additionally, solar panels will be installed to provide a source of renewable energy. This will contribute to the school’s ambition to achieve net zero by 2035.

Reaseheath College, Cheshire

Reaseheath College, an agricultural college in Cheshire, has been awarded £522,131 to replace old oil boilers at their Centrepoint building with an air source heat pump.

St Luke’s Church of England Primary School, Salford

St Luke’s Church of England Primary School in Salford has been awarded £311,141 to replace the gas heating systems in the school’s main building with an air source heat pump and new electric point-of-use water heaters. Solar panels will also be installed to provide a source of renewable energy.

St Michael’s Church of England High School, Chorley

St Michael’s Church of England High School in Chorley has been awarded £537,583 to decarbonise several buildings across the school, including the sports hall and the music block. In all 3 buildings, old gas fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed on the music block. An improved building energy management system for the sports hall and gym, as well as loft insulation upgrades, will increase the energy efficiency of the site.

United Learning Trust

United Learning Trust has been awarded £5,702,484 for 5 projects to decarbonise Manchester Academy, Salford City Academy, Albion Academy and Marlborough Road Academy, both in Salford, and Accrington Academy in Lancashire. Fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all the schools, alongside the installation of solar panels in some of the schools. A variety of energy efficiency measures will also be installed, including LED lighting, cavity wall insulation and upgrades to building energy management systems.

University of Manchester

The University of Manchester has been awarded £2,215,850 to decarbonise the Zochonis Building, which houses the Age and Cognitive Performance Research Centre. The existing gas heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump and solar panels will be installed. Roof insulation, dry wall lining, high-efficiency fans and new LED fitting will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Warrington Borough Council

Warrington Borough Council has been awarded £897,498 for 2 projects to upgrade Walton Hall, a Grade II listed country house which serves as an events space and wedding venue, and Warrington Town Hall, a Grade I listed building built in 1750. At both sites, gas boilers will be replaced with ground source heat pumps and building energy management systems will be installed. LED lighting will also be installed in Walton Hall to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

East Midlands

Archway Learning Trust: Bluecoat Beechdale Academy, Nottingham

Archway Learning Trust has been awarded £1,097,266 to replace gas boilers with new air source heat pumps at Bluecoat Beechdale Academy, a secondary school in Nottingham.

Ashfield District Council

Ashfield District Council has been awarded £2,012,134 for 2 projects to install air source heat pumps at its main council office at Kirkby in Ashfield and at the Hucknall Leisure Centre. Solar panels will also be installed at the Kirkby office and solar thermal will be installed at Hucknall Leisure Centre to provide additional heating for the swimming pool. A range of energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the buildings, including LED lighting with controls, new air handling units, building energy management systems, wastewater heat recovery for showers, and motor replacements.

De Montfort University, Leicester

De Montfort University in Leicester has been awarded £176,718 to replace the ageing gas boilers in Leicester Media School building, the base for the university’s Animation and Game Art studios, with air source heat pumps. The heat pumps will be connected to the university’s energy monitoring system, which will provide information to students and researchers. It will also give mechanical engineering students exposure to low carbon energy systems of the future.

Derbyshire Dales District Council

Derbyshire Dales District Council has been awarded £1,925,500 to support the decarbonisation of 2 buildings. The Council plans to decarbonise the Arc Matlock Leisure Centre and Wirksworth Sports Centre through the replacement of old fossil fuel boilers with air source heat pumps and the installation of solar panels on their rooftops. Electric heaters will also be fitted at both locations.

Erewash Borough Council

Erewash Borough Council has been awarded £142,550 to replace gas boilers with electric underfloor heating at the Long Eaton Old Stables business centre. Roof insulation, dry wall lining and secondary glazing will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Gorseybrigg Primary School and Nursery, Derbyshire

Gorseybrigg Primary School and Nursery in Derbyshire has been awarded £320,775 to install an air source heat pump with a back-up biomass boiler. Solar panels will also be installed on the school’s roof, and the energy efficiency of the school will be improved through the installation of insulation and upgrades to the heating distribution pipework.

High Peak Borough Council

High Peak Borough Council has been awarded £1,281,500 to fully decarbonise Buxton Swimming and Fitness Centre.  The existing gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed to provide a source of renewable energy.

Mead Educational Trust, Leicester

The Mead Education Trust in Leicester has been awarded £1,719,543 to decarbonise 4 of their schools: Kibworth Mead Academy, Knighton Mead Academy, North Mead Academy and Willowbrook Academy. The existing gas boilers at all sites will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels will be installed to provide a source of renewable energy. LED lighting will be installed to improve energy efficiency. Double glazing will also be installed at Kibworth Mead Academy.

Nottinghamshire County Council

Nottinghamshire County Council has been awarded £156,313 to install an air source heat pump at Sutton-Cum-Lound Church of England Primary School. The energy efficiency of the school will also be improved through the installation of LED lighting and heating controls.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded £40,033,681 to replace the existing gas heating systems with a hybrid source heat pump system made up of ground and air source heat pumps at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. Extensive electrical infrastructure upgrades will also be carried out and double glazing will be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the site.

Rushcliffe Borough Council

Rushcliffe Borough Council has been awarded £1,214,958 to decarbonise Cotgrave Leisure Centre, one of the Council’s major carbon emitters. Air source heat pumps will be installed to heat the leisure centre and swimming pool, and solar panels will be installed to generate renewable energy.

SMB College Group

SMB College Group has been awarded £2,700,300 to support the decarbonisation of Brooksby Melton College, a further education college in Melton Mowbray. A variety of buildings will be upgraded, including Brooksby Hall, a Grade II listed manor house. Water source heat pumps will be installed to replace gas fired boilers, and solar panels will be installed on the roof of the office building. LED lighting, double glazing and loft insulation improvements will also be undertaken to improve the overall energy efficiency of the campus.

University of Leicester

The University of Leicester has been awarded £530,055 to decarbonise the Attenborough Arts Centre and the Roger Bettles Sport Centre. Existing gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed at the Roger Bettles Sport Centre. New LED lighting and building energy management systems will be installed to improve the energy efficiency of both sites.

UK Research and Innovation: Natural Environment Research Council

The Natural Environment Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation, has been awarded £215,769 to decarbonise the James Hutton Building and the building which houses the staff restaurant and meeting rooms at the British Geological Survey in Keyworth. The gas heating systems will be replaced with ground source heat pumps, and improvements will be made to the hot water distribution and heating distribution pipework. Further upgrades also include the installation of speed drives, new LED lighting, and building energy management systems.

UK Research and Innovation: Natural Environment Research Council is based in the South West and will invest this funding in the East Midlands.

West Northamptonshire Council

West Northamptonshire Council has been awarded £7,074,540 to decarbonise 4 leisure centres: Daventry Leisure Centre, Moulton Leisure Centre, Brackley Leisure Centre, and Towcester Centre for Leisure. The gas heating systems currently heating the swimming pools at these leisure centres will all be replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels will also be installed at Daventry Leisure Centre and Moulton Leisure Centre to provide a source of renewable energy. This will support the Council’s target of becoming net zero by 2030.

West Midlands

Birmingham City University

Birmingham City University has been awarded £3,336,982 to upgrade 2 buildings: the Pavilion, the university’s main sports facility, and the Seacole building, which houses the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences and the Defence School of Healthcare Education. Air source heat pumps, solar panels and LED lighting will be installed in both buildings. A variety of other energy efficiency measures will be installed, including energy efficient chillers in the Seacole building and insulation and a building energy management system in the Pavilion Leisure Centre.

Birmingham Metropolitan College

Birmingham Metropolitan College has been awarded £2,564,083 to replace the existing gas heating systems with air source heat pumps at the James Watt College in Birmingham. External wall insulation and hot water distribution improvements will also be carried out to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £10,155,448 for 2 projects to decarbonise Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Parkview Clinic, which provides mental health services. A ground and water source heat pump system and double glazing will be installed at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. At Parkview Clinic, an air source and water source heat pump will be installed, alongside loft insulation to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Community Academies Trust, Tamworth

Community Academies Trust has been awarded £1,810,837 to decarbonise Polesworth School and Kingsway Primary School. Air source heat pumps and insulation will be installed at both schools. In addition, solar panels will be installed at Kingsway Primary School and electric heating and secondary glazing will be installed at Polesworth School.

Coventry City Council

Coventry City Council has been awarded £2,771,086 to install air source heat pumps and draught proofing at 7 primary schools: Coundon Primary School, Eastern Green Junior School, Henley Green Primary School, Manor Park Primary School, Ravensdale Primary School, St Christophers Primary School, and Willenhall Community Primary School.

Dudley College of Technology

Dudley College of Technology has been awarded £2,020,170 to install air source heat pumps in their main building, as well as improving the insulation of the building through the installation of roof insulation and double glazing.

Harper Adams University, Shropshire

Harper Adams University in Shropshire has been awarded £708,747 to install air source heat pumps to heat the Princess Margaret Science Building, the Foulkes Crowther teaching building, and the Boughey student halls of residence building. The insulation of the buildings will also be improved to increase energy efficiency, and energy efficient ventilation fans will be installed in the Boughey student halls of residence.

North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, Nuneaton

North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College has been awarded £3,065,846 to decarbonise 4 buildings at their Nuneaton Campus. An air source heat pump will be installed to heat all 4 buildings, and solar panels will be installed on the roofs of 3 of the buildings. A range of energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the buildings, including double glazing, LED lighting, cavity wall insulation and roof insulation.

Reach2 Academy Trust

Reach2 Academy Trust has been awarded £1,033,520 to replace end-of-life fossil fuel heating systems at 4 schools: Brampton Primary Academy, Tymberwood Academy, Kirby Primary Academy and Riverside Academy. Air source heat pumps will be installed at all schools, while Kirby Primary Academy will have solar panels, LED lighting and cavity wall insulation fitted. Brampton Primary Academy will also have loft insulation installed.

Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust

Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has been awarded £31,391,126 to install air source heat pumps across a variety of NHS Trusts and services buildings, including West Park Hospital and New Cross Hospital at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, Walsall Manor Hospital at the Walsall NHS Trust, Sandwell General Hospital at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, and a training academy and hospital hub of West Midlands Ambulance Service. The energy efficiency of the buildings will also be improved through the installation of a variety of measures, including LED lighting, double glazing, cavity wall insulation, and high efficiency motors. Solar panels will also be installed at Sandwell General Hospital to provide a source of renewable energy.

South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £8,106,405 to decarbonise 21 buildings across Warwick Hospital and Royal Leamington Spa Rehabilitation Hospital, including the John Turner education centre, a care home, and a mortuary. Air source heat pumps will be installed to heat the buildings, and a range of energy efficiency measures will be installed across the sites including external and cavity wall insulation, double glazing and LED lighting.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has been awarded £1,910,000 to replace the existing gas boilers at Biddulph Valley Leisure Centre with air source heat pumps. Solar panels will also be installed to provide a source of renewable energy.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £12,948,248 to replace the existing gas heating system at Queen Elizabeth Hospital with a water source heat pump. Double glazing and heating pipework insulation will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the hospital.

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust has been awarded £5,431,451 to upgrade Royal Stoke University Hospital. Air source heat pumps will be installed in 4 buildings: the Clinical Education Centre, the Undergraduate Medical School, the Academy staff training facility, and the linen store, which is the hospital’s main distribution centre for bedding. The existing steam boilers will also be replaced with electric boilers to produce steam where needed across the hospital. In addition, LED lighting and solar panels will be installed in some of these hospital buildings.

University of Warwick

The University of Warwick has been awarded £1,043,635 to decarbonise the computer science building at the university’s Coventry Campus. The old gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps and the energy efficiency of the building will be improved through the installation of double glazing and roof insulation.

Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council

Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council has been awarded £3,671,750 to decarbonise 2 of their biggest carbon emitting buildings: the Civic Centre, a 1970s office building, and the Town Hall, a Grade II listed building built in 1903. Air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed in both buildings.

East of England

Bedford Borough Council

Bedford Borough Council has been awarded £846,200 to support low carbon heating and energy efficiency measures at King’s Oak Primary School. Air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting and cavity wall insulation will be installed across the school buildings.

Bedford College Group

Bedford College Group has been awarded £2,515,001 to support the decarbonisation of 3 buildings at its Shuttleworth Campus, including the Learning Resources Centre, Russell Hall and Foyer, and one of their halls of residence. Air source heat pumps will be installed at all 3 sites, and energy efficiency measures including roof, wall and window insulation upgrades will also be installed. Building energy management systems will be improved at each of the locations.

Cambridgeshire County Council

Cambridgeshire County Council has been awarded £2,016,538 for 3 projects to decarbonise 6 primary schools, 2 multifunctional buildings, Huntingdon Nursery, St Neots Library, Tennyson Lodge and March Community Centre. Existing gas heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed. A range of energy efficiency measures will be installed across the sites including new LED lighting, draught proofing, heating pipework insulation and building energy management systems.

Cranfield University

Cranfield University has been awarded £3,661,769 to connect Mitchell Hall, the Cranfield Management Development Centre Hotel and the 5 Stringfellow Halls of Residence to the existing district heating network. Thermal stores and building energy management systems will also be installed at Mitchell Hall to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Darwin College, University of Cambridge

Darwin College, part of the University of Cambridge, has been awarded £141,960 to replace old gas fired boilers with new air source heat pumps at Frank Young House, a 28-bedroom student halls of residence building.

Diocese of Ely

The Diocese of Ely has been awarded £1,132,461 for 2 projects to decarbonise 6 primary schools: Barton Primary School, Elsworth Primary School, Great and Little Shelford Primary School, St Paul’s Primary School, St Phillip’s Primary School and Elton Primary School. Air source heat pumps will be installed at all sites and solar panels will be also fitted at Barton Primary School. A range of energy efficiency measures will be installed across the schools, including LED lighting at Barton and Elton Primary Schools and building energy management systems and draught proofing at Elton Primary School.

Essex County Council

Essex County Council has been awarded £1,729,424 to decarbonise 7 primary schools, 2 nursing homes, Woodland Montessori preschool, Adult Course and Learning Chelmsford, Northlands Park Family Hub and Shrubland Day Centre for adults with learning disabilities. End-of-life gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed. A variety of energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the sites including double glazing and loft, roof and wall insulation.

Hertsmere Borough Council

Hertsmere Borough Council has been awarded £239,350 to install air source heat pumps at Elstree Film Studios, which are used to produce many well-known film and television productions. Solar panels will also be installed on the roof at each site, and heat recovery and building energy management systems will be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the studios. Elstree Film Studios is managed by Elstree Film Studios Limited, a company controlled by Hertsmere Borough Council.

London Borough of Newham

London Borough of Newham has been awarded £228,933 to decarbonise the main building at Fairplay House Outdoor Education Centre, a residential activity centre in rural Essex operated by the Borough for their school pupils. The existing fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump, and the energy efficiency of the building will also be improved through the installation of heating pipework insulation, hot water distribution improvements, and an upgrade to the building energy management system.

London Borough of Newham is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in the East of England.

Luton Borough Council

Luton Borough Council has been awarded £457,292 for 3 projects to replace existing gas fired boilers with air source heat pumps at Rothesay Nursery School, St Matthew’s Primary School and Stopsley Primary Community School. Solar panels will also be installed at all sites. The energy efficiency of the 3 sites will also be improved through the fixture of new LED lighting, the installation of double glazing, loft and wall insulation, pipework insulation, heating controls and new building energy management systems.

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £4,821,645 to support the decarbonisation of its buildings, including the MRI scanning unit, the orthopaedic unit, and the paediatric assessment unit. Old gas and oil fuelled boilers will be replaced by air source heat pumps, and the energy efficiency of the buildings will be increased through the installation of double-glazed windows, pipework improvements and the replacement of air handling units.

Norfolk County Council

Norfolk County Council has been awarded £1,831,351 to upgrade 6 libraries, 5 children’s homes, 3 fire stations and 2 community centres. Air source heat pumps will be installed in all buildings except for 2, a fire station and a library, where electric panel heaters will be installed. A variety of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the buildings, including solar panels, LED lighting, double and secondary glazing, roof insulation, loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.

Pembroke College, University of Cambridge

Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge has been awarded £727,209 for 2 projects at Foundress Court, a university building which provides student accommodation, lecture spaces, meeting rooms, a music room and a computer room and 26 Barton Road, a 7-bedroom student residence building. Air source heat pumps will be installed in both buildings and the energy efficiency will be improved through an upgrade of the building energy management system at Foundress Court and with the addition of wall, floor and roof insulation, draught proofing, and double glazing at 26 Barton Road.

Sapientia Education Trust, Norfolk

The Sapientia Education Trust in Norfolk has been awarded £87,344 to replace the existing oil-fired boilers with air source heat pumps at Great Hockham Primary School’s main building.  LED lighting will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the site.

South Norfolk District Council

South Norfolk District Council has been awarded £2,037,662 to install air source heat pumps at Diss Leisure Centre and the Council’s headquarters at Horizon Centre, and to install a ground source heat pump at Kestrel House. Solar panels will also be installed at Diss Leisure Centre and Kestrel House to provide a source of renewable energy, and the energy efficiency of Diss Leisure Centre will be improved through the installation of external wall and roof insulation.

St Mary’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, Essex

St Mary’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School in Essex has been awarded £164,228 to decarbonise and improve the energy efficiency of the school. The end-of-life gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed. LED lighting and loft insulation will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the classrooms.

Tollesbury School, Essex

Tollesbury School in Essex has been awarded £414,351 to support the decarbonisation of its main building, originally built in the 19th century. A ground source heat pump will be installed to replace old oil-fired boilers. Building upgrades will also be undertaken to increase energy efficiency, including the improvement of roof, cavity wall and draught-proofing insulation, installing LED lighting and upgrading windows to double glazing. Solar panels will also be installed on the roof of the school.

University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge has been awarded £294,974 to replace the end-of-life gas boilers at Keynes House university building with air source heat pumps, and to install double glazing to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

South East

Adur and Worthing Councils

Adur and Worthing Councils have been awarded £2,956,264 for 2 projects to support the decarbonisation of 7 public buildings. Of the 7 buildings, 4 are Grade II listed: Worthing Town Hall, Worthing Museum, Worthing Assembly Hall, and the Pavilion Theatre. The remaining 3 buildings are Portland House office building, East Worthing Community Centre and Connaught Theatre, one of the oldest cinemas in the UK. Six buildings will be connected to the existing Worthing Heat Network, which uses a pump system to turn heat from wastewater in the local sewer into sustainable energy. The existing gas boiler heating system with an air source heat pump at the East Worthing Community Centre. Multiple improvements will also be undertaken across the sites, including the installation of solar panels, loft insulation, draught-proofing and new LED lighting.

Brasenose College, University of Oxford

Brasenose College at the University of Oxford has been awarded £349,553 to decarbonise Frewin Hall, a Grade II listed building used as a student hall of residence. The existing gas heating systems will be replaced with ground source heat pumps and a variety of energy efficiency measures will be installed, including floor insulation, dry wall lining, loft insulation, double glazing and heat recovery.

Canterbury City Council

Canterbury City Council has been awarded £644,975 to decarbonise Kingsmead Leisure Centre. The existing gas fired boiler will be replaced with air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed. In addition, new air handling units and LED lighting will be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust has been awarded £543,167 to upgrade the Children’s Resource Centre at Darent Valley Hospital, a service which provides healthcare for children. An air source heat pump and an electric boiler will be installed to replace the existing fossil fuel boilers, and wall insulation will be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Dartford Borough Council

Dartford Borough Council has been awarded £1,508,475 to decarbonise Fairfield Leisure Centre. Old gas fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps and the building energy management system will be updated. Solar panels, LED lighting and lighting controls will also be installed.

Diocese of Guildford

The Diocese of Guildford has been awarded £4,098,601 to replace end-of-life boilers with air source heat pumps across 46 buildings in 21 schools. A range of energy efficiency measures will also be undertaken in 20 buildings, including the installation of double glazing, new LED lighting, heating controls, heating pipework insulation and wall insulation.

East Sussex County Council

East Sussex County Council has been awarded £1,013,054 to decarbonise 6 primary schools: Rotherfield Primary School, Plumpton Primary School, Bodiam Primary School, Hellingly Primary School, Rocks Park Primary School and Chiddingly Primary School. In all schools the existing fossil-fuelled heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps and the energy efficiency of the buildings will be improved through the installation of roof insulation and energy efficient ventilation fans. Cavity wall insulation and LED lighting will also be installed at Rotherfield Primary School.

Farnborough College of Technology, Hampshire

Farnborough College of Technology in Hampshire has been awarded £4,794,707 to decarbonise the main building at their main college campus. The existing gas boilers will be replaced with ground source heat pumps, solar panels will be installed, and the energy efficiency of the building will be improved through the installation of roof insulation and an upgrade to the building energy management system.

Hampshire County Council

Hampshire County Council has been awarded £931,685 to replace the existing gas heating systems with ground source heat pumps at Heatherside Junior School, Nightingale Primary School and Hiltingbury Junior School. Double glazing, wall and roof insulation will also be installed at Nightingale Primary School and Hiltingbury Junior School to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has been awarded £100,735 to decarbonise Bordon Fire Station. The station’s old gas heating system will be replaced with air source heat pumps and electric heating, and further energy efficiency improvements will be made, including the installation of solar panels, heating controls, LED lighting, double glazing and both roof and external wall insulation.

Kent County Council

Kent County Council has been awarded a combined total of £1,842,832 for 2 projects to support the decarbonisation of 5 sites: Dover Discovery Centre, which houses Dover Library; the Yew Tree Centre, which provides day care services; Ashford Gateway Plus adult learning centre; Oxford Road office building; and Worrall House administrative office. Gas fired heating systems will be replaced at all 5 sites with air source heat pumps. A variety of energy efficiency upgrades will also be installed across the buildings, including building energy management systems, double glazing, and LED lighting.

Linacre College, University of Oxford

Linacre College in Oxford has been awarded £824,548 to replace existing gas heating systems with air source heat pumps at the Obert Clark Tanner building, an administrative building that houses catering facilities and the Bamborough, Griffiths and Abraham students’ residential buildings. Double glazing will also be fitted to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings.

MidKent College, Kent

MidKent College has been awarded £5,010,254 to decarbonise their 2 campuses at Medway and Maidstone in Kent. The existing gas boilers will be replaced with ground source heat pumps at Maidstone and air source heat pumps at Medway. Solar panels will also be installed at both sites to generate renewable energy, and the energy efficiency of the sites will be improved through the installation of building energy management systems.

Mountbatten School, Hampshire

Mountbatten School in Hampshire has been awarded £87,413 to decarbonise one of its school buildings. The gas boiler will be replaced with an air source heat pump and solar panels will be installed.

Norton Knatchball School, Ashford

Norton Knatchbull School in Ashford has been awarded £1,060,000 to support the decarbonisation of several of its buildings, including its sports hall and 3 storey main building extension. Air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed across the buildings while loft, cavity wall and pipework insulation upgrades, as well as building energy management system improvements, will increase the overall energy efficiency of the school site.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £29,846,905 for 2 projects to decarbonise John Radcliffe Hospital, a teaching hospital based in Oxford, and Horton General Hospital. Air source heat pumps will be installed at both hospitals. Solar panels, draught proofing, pipework insulation and upgrades to air fans and building energy management systems will be installed at John Radcliffe Hospital. Solar panels and loft insulation will also be installed on multiple sites at Horton Hospital, including the Emergency Assessment Unit and Laburnum, Oak and Juniper wards.

Pembroke College, University of Oxford

Pembroke College at the University of Oxford has been awarded £1,356,000 to upgrade the Sir Geoffrey Arthur accommodation building and the College’s Grade II listed dining hall, which was built in 1848. Air source heat pumps will be installed in both buildings. Double glazing and draught proofing will also be installed in the dining hall, as well as floor insulation in the Sir Geoffrey Arthur building, to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings.

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has been awarded £1,625,470 for 4 projects to upgrade Lawns Nursery, Chiltern Road School, Maidenhead Town Hall and the Windsor Guildhall, a Grade I listed building. An air source heat pump and double glazing will be installed at Lawns Nursery. At Chiltern Road School, an air source heat pump will be installed at the school’s main building while double glazing, roof, and wall insulation will be fitted to improve the energy efficiency of the site. Air source heat pumps and draught proofing will also be installed at Windsor Guildhall and Maidenhead Town Hall, alongside additional double glazing at Maidenhead Town Hall.

South Oxfordshire District Council

South Oxfordshire District Council has been awarded £376,071 to install air source heat pumps and solar panels at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot.

St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, Horsham

St Peter’s Church of England Primary School in Horsham has been awarded £670,125 to replace the end-of-life oil boilers at the main building with a ground source heat pump. The energy efficiency of the building will also be improved through the installation of draught proofing, cavity wall insulation, roof insulation and double glazing.

Surrey County Council

Surrey County Council has been awarded £6,086,636 for 2 projects to upgrade a variety of Council buildings, including 4 community centres, 3 adult learning centres, a fire station, 2 nursing centres, a secondary school and 11 primary schools. Air source heat pumps will be installed in each of these buildings, alongside electric point-of-use water heaters at some sites. A variety of energy efficiency measures will also be installed, including LED lighting, lighting controls, double glazing, draught proofing, cavity wall insulation and high efficiency motors.

Test Valley Borough Council

Test Valley Borough Council has been awarded £221,871 to decarbonise its Bourne House office building in Romsey. Gas fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps. The building will also be fitted with LED lighting, solar panels, cavity wall installation and a building energy management system.

Trinity College, University of Oxford

Trinity College at the University of Oxford has been awarded £624,453 to decarbonise the Grade II listed Jackson Building, which contains the college’s guest rooms. The existing gas heating systems will be replaced with a ground source heat pump. Draught proofing and loft and floor insulation will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

University for the Creative Arts

The University for the Creative Arts has been awarded £4,485,622 for 2 projects to support the decarbonisation of its Farnham and Epsom campuses, including the libraries and main buildings at both sites. Gas boilers will be replaced with ground source heat pumps at each location and solar panels, roofing insulation and new building energy management systems will be installed.

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £29,378,664 to support the decarbonisation of Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital. New air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed, and the insulation of the buildings will be improved through the replacement of single glazing with double glazing in the oldest hospital wings. Pipework improvements and new LED lighting will further improve the energy efficiency of the hospitals.

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £19,142,745 to connect Worthing Hospital to the Worthing Heat Network, a privately funded heat network in Worthing town centre. Solar panels will also be installed to provide a source of renewable energy.

University of Oxford

The University of Oxford has been awarded £941,094 to replace the end-of-life gas boilers at Saïd Business School with air source heat pumps.

University of Portsmouth

The University of Portsmouth has been awarded £3,259,686 to replace the existing gas heating systems with air source heat pumps in the Anglesea Building (which houses the department of engineering), the Harry Law student halls of residence building, and the university library. In addition, insulation and LED lighting will be installed in the Anglesea building and LED lighting will be installed in the library.

University of Reading

University of Reading has been awarded £865,262 to decarbonise the University ‘SportsPark’, which consists of a sports hall and a squash court. The gas heating systems will be replaced with an air source heat pump and a water source heat pump, which will then be connected to the existing district heating system. Heating pipework insulation, high efficiency motors and motor controls will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Vale of White Horse District Council

Vale of White Horse District Council has been awarded £5,992,916 to decarbonise its leisure facilities at Wantage Leisure Centre and White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre. Gas fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed at both centres. An electric boiler will also be installed at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre, and external wall insulation and double glazing will be fitted at Wantage Leisure Centre.

Welwyn Hatfield Council

Welwyn Hatfield Council has been awarded £933,274 for 3 projects to install air source heat pumps at Panshanger Community Centre, Hatfield Leisure Centre and the Hive community centre. New air handling units will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of all sites.

West Oxfordshire District Council

West Oxfordshire District Council has been awarded £1,606,968 to replace end-of-life gas boilers at Carterton Leisure Centre with an air source heat pump. Solar panels will also be installed, alongside a range of energy efficiency measures such as a new heat recovery system for the pool, variable speed drives, air filters, pipework insulation, and a building energy management system. This will support the Council’s target to become carbon neutral by 2030.

West Sussex County Council

West Sussex City Council has been awarded £2,364,437 to install air source heat pumps in 21 council buildings, including 9 libraries, 6 fire stations, and 6 social care services buildings.

Winchester City Council

Winchester City Council has been awarded £64,251 to install air source heat pumps and solar panels at Meadowside Leisure Centre.

South West

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust has been awarded £119,046 to replace the gas boilers with an air source heat pump at the Elmham Way Nursing Home.

Bath and North East Somerset Council

Bath and North East Somerset Council has been awarded £539,548 to replace gas boilers with air source heat pumps at Cleeve Court and Combe Lea care homes.

Bournemouth University

Bournemouth University has been awarded £1,415,369 to decarbonise 3 buildings at their Talbot Campus: Dorset House, which houses the doctoral college, Kimmeridge House lecture theatre, and Sir Michael Cobham Library. Air source heat pumps will be installed at all 3 buildings and solar panels will be installed at Dorset House to provide a source of renewable energy.

Cheltenham Borough Council

Cheltenham Borough Council has been awarded £287,546 to replace end-of-life gas boilers with air source heat pumps and electric boilers at the Leisure at Cheltenham, which houses a swimming pool and sports facilities. Heat recovery will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the centre.

Churchill Academy and Sixth Form, Winscombe

Churchill Academy and Sixth Form has been awarded £222,430 to decarbonise its sixth form and main hall buildings. Existing gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and double glazing and external wall insulation will be installed.

Corsham School Academy Group, Wiltshire

The Corsham School Academy Group in Wiltshire has been awarded £1,272,784 to decarbonise 5 buildings at Corsham School. The old gas boilers will be replaced with biomass boilers, and new LED lighting and wall and roof insulation will be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings.

Excalibur Academies Trust, Marlborough

Excalibur Academies Trust has been awarded £605,460 to install air source heat pumps at 4 of its schools: Lambourne Primary School, May Park Primary School, Burbage Primary School and Fairfield High School. Additional renewable energy and energy efficiency measures will also be installed at some of these schools, including solar panels, point-of-use electric water heaters, and a building energy management system.

Exeter City Council

Exeter City Council has been awarded £6,391,663 to decarbonise the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and the Riverside Leisure Centre. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum is the largest museum in Exeter, housed in a Grade II listed gothic revival building while the Riverside Leisure Centre features a 25m swimming pool, a 6-court sports hall and 2 squash courts amongst other facilities. The end-of-life gas heating systems at both sites will be replaced with air and water source heat pumps and a heat recovery system, and roof insulation will be installed at Riverside Leisure Centre.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £628,173 to install an air source heat pump and a water source heat pump at Charlton Lane Hospital, a hospital which provides treatment and care for older people with mental health problems and dementia.

Ministry of Justice

The Ministry of Justice has been awarded £1,360,920 to decarbonise 2 residential blocks at HMP Eastwood Park, a women’s prison in South Gloucestershire. The existing oil boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump. In addition, a variety of energy efficiency measures will be installed, including building energy management systems, motor replacement, hot water flow restrictors, double glazing and cavity wall insulation.

The Ministry of Justice is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in the South West.

North Bristol NHS Trust

North Bristol NHS Trust has been awarded £3,404,525 to decarbonise 5 of its buildings, including 3 buildings at Southmead Hospital, the South Bristol Dialysis Unit and Bristol Centre for Enablement, which provides services such as prosthetics and wheelchairs. The gas boilers heating these buildings will all be replaced with air source and water source heat pumps. Cavity wall and loft insulation will also be installed in 2 of the Southmead Hospital buildings.

North Somerset Council

North Somerset Council has been awarded £885,746 to install an air source heat pump and a water source heat pump, and to upgrade the ventilation system of its multiuse community centre site. This site includes the buildings of Baytree Primary School, Heron’s Moor Academy, Locking Castle Children’s Centre, and a campus library.

Palladian Academy Trust: St Martin’s Garden Primary School, Bath

Palladian Academy Trust has been awarded £801,709 to install air source heat pumps at St Martin’s Garden Primary School in Bath. Solar panels will also be installed to provide a source of renewable energy.

Plymouth CAST Multi Academy Trust: St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Penzance

Plymouth CAST Multi Academy Trust has been awarded £371,427 to decarbonise the main building and the swimming pool at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Penzance. Air source heat pumps and an electric boiler will be installed to replace the existing gas heating systems and solar panels will be installed. Further upgrades will include the installation of LED lighting and roof insulation.

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £10,005,491 to upgrade various buildings at Salisbury District Hospital, including the Spinal Treatment Centre and the hospital leisure centre, Odstock Health and Fitness. Gas fired boilers will be replaced with water and air source heat pumps, and the energy efficiency of the buildings will be improved through new insulation, improvements to the heating distribution pipework, and upgrades to the building’s energy management system.

Somerset West and Taunton District Council

Somerset West and Taunton District Council has been awarded £1,541,837 to decarbonise Wellington Sports Centre and Alcombe Children’s Centre, a day nursery for children. Old gas fired heating and water systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels, LED lighting, double glazing and roof insulation will be installed.

South Gloucestershire Council

South Gloucestershire Council has been awarded £499,459 to decarbonise 3 schools: St Stephen’s Junior School, Barrs Court Primary School and Wick Primary School. Air source heat pumps and solar panels will be fitted at all 3 schools. Energy efficient convection ovens and LED lighting will also be installed at 2 of the schools.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Malmesbury

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Malmesbury has been awarded £98,608 to replace their old gas fired boiler with an air source heat pump. Solar panels will also be installed, as well as loft and cavity wall insulation.

Stroud District Council

Stroud District Council has been awarded £4,690,518 to decarbonise Stratford Park Leisure Centre, the Pulse Leisure Centre, and the Museum in the Park local history museum. The gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all 3 sites, and cavity wall insulation will also be installed at Stratford Park Leisure Centre to improve its energy efficiency.

Teignbridge District Council

Teignbridge District Council has been awarded £309,772 to decarbonise Broadmeadow Sports Centre in Teignmouth, South Devon. The existing gas fired heating will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Double glazing and both wall and roof insulation will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

Tewkesbury Borough Council

Tewkesbury Borough Council has been awarded £708,282 to upgrade their head office building. Air source heat pumps will be installed to replace gas boilers and the existing building energy management system will be upgraded.

Torbay Council

Torbay Council has been awarded £59,064 to replace the gas boiler at Watcombe Nursery with an air source heat pump.

University of Exeter

The University of Exeter has been awarded £1,299,668 to decarbonise the multi-purpose Cornwall House building and the university’s biosciences greenhouse. The end-of-life gas fired boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump in the Cornwall House building and with an air source heat pump and a water source heat pump in the greenhouse building. This will contribute to the university’s ambition to achieve zero carbon by 2030.

University of Plymouth

The University of Plymouth has been awarded £351,338 to replace the existing gas fired boilers with air source heat pumps at its Fitzroy building, which houses the university’s Business School. Wall insulation will also be installed to improve the energy efficiency of the site.

University of the West of England, Bristol

The University of the West of England has been awarded £2,590,711 to connect 6 academic buildings and the Wallscourt Park halls of residence building at their Frenchay campus in Bristol to an existing heat network.

Wimborne Academy Trust, Dorset

Wimborne Academy Trust in Dorset has been awarded £330,203 to install air source heat pumps at St Johns Church of England First School and Hillside First School.

Greater London

Home Office

The Home Office has been awarded £540,000 to decarbonise its immigration reporting centre at Eaton House in Hounslow. The current gas fired boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Loft and draught insulation will also be installed, and the building energy management system will be upgraded.

Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine 

Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine has been awarded £2,757,689 to decarbonise the Clinical Research Building at Hammersmith Campus for the National Heart and Lung Institute, part of the Faculty of Medicine from Imperial College London. Existing gas heating systems will be replaced with an air source heat pump and an electric boiler. Solar panels will also be installed and roof insulation and double glazing will be undertaken to improve the energy efficiency of the site.

London Borough of Camden

London Borough of Camden has been awarded £3,237,036 for 3 projects to upgrade Kingsgate Primary School, Hampstead Secondary School, the Grade II listed Highgate Library, West Hampstead library, Netherwood Day Centre, York Way vehicle depot and Waterlow Park visitor centre. Air source heat pumps will be installed in all buildings except for Waterlow Park visitor centre, where a ground source heat pump will be installed. Other improvements to be installed across the sites will include LED lighting, double glazing, dry wall lining, draught proofing, loft insulation and solar panels.

London Borough of Ealing

London Borough of Ealing has been awarded £13,721,250 for 2 projects to decarbonise 3 leisure centres, 2 high schools and 4 primary schools. Air source heat pumps will be installed across all sites and water source heat pumps will also be installed at the leisure centres. Solar thermal will also be installed and cavity wall insulation will be fitted in the 2 high schools and 2 of the 4 primary schools.

London Borough of Hackney

London Borough of Hackney has been awarded £12,256,958 to decarbonise Stoke Newington Town Hall, Holmleigh Primary School, Trowbridge Day Centre, 2 secondary schools and 3 leisure centres including London Fields Lido.  Existing gas heating systems will be replaced with air and ground source heat pumps and solar thermal will be installed. Cavity wall insulation, roof insulation and double glazing upgrades will also be undertaken at Holmleigh Primary School to improve the energy efficiency of the school.

London Borough of Hounslow Council

London Borough of Hounslow Council has been awarded £2,109,137 to decarbonise 6 schools: Norwood Green Infant and Nursery School, Brentford School for Girls, Sparrow Farm Primary School, Cardinal Road Infant and Nursery, Crane Park Primary School and Southville Primary School. The existing end-of-life fossil fuel heating systems at all sites will be replaced with air source heat pumps, whilst solar thermal will be installed in 5 schools. Cavity wall insulation will also be fitted in 5 of the schools to improve their energy efficiency.

London Borough of Hillingdon

London Borough of Hillingdon has been awarded £13,751,385 to install air source heat pumps at the Council’s 4 largest sources of carbon emissions: the Civic Centre, Winston Churchill Hall and Theatre, Highgrove Leisure Centre, and Hillingdon Leisure Centre. A variety of energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the buildings, including double glazing, secondary glazing, and loft and cavity wall insulation.

London Borough of Islington

London Borough of Islington has been awarded £2,311,055 for 3 projects to decarbonise King Henrys Walk, a nursing home which provides support services for people with learning disabilities, Archway Leisure Centre and Drayton Park Primary School. Existing gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps and solar panels will also be installed. A range of energy efficiency measures will be installed across 2 of the 3 sites including improvements to the building energy management systems and heating pipework, and the installation of cooling control systems and heating controls.

London Borough of Lambeth

London Borough of Lambeth has been awarded £10,517,824 for 2 projects to decarbonise 15 schools and 3 leisure centres. The existing gas heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps and electric boilers. A variety of energy efficiency measures will also be installed, including loft insulation, double glazing, hot water flow restrictors, heat storage, and speed drives, as well as upgrades to heating pipework. Additionally, floor insulation, draught proofing, wall insulation, LED lighting and building energy management systems will be installed to improve the overall energy efficiency of the sites.

London Borough of Lewisham

London Borough of Lewisham has been awarded £872,604 to decarbonise 4 community centres and Downderry Primary School. An air source heat pump will be installed in each of the buildings, and solar panels will also be installed in all but one of the community centres. Additionally, LED lighting and cavity wall insulation will be installed at some of these buildings to improve their energy efficiency.

London Borough of Merton

London Borough of Merton has been awarded £3,136,593 to decarbonise the Borough’s largest building, the 15 storey Civic Centre in Morden town centre. The existing end-of-life gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps and the energy efficiency of the building will be improved by upgrading the hot water supply to point-of-use heaters.

London Borough of Sutton

London Borough of Sutton has been awarded £137,852 to install an air source heat pump, cavity wall insulation, double glazing, solar panels and LED lighting at Sutton Youth Centre.

*London Diocesan Board for Schools

The London Diocesan Board for Schools has been awarded £4,319,492 for 8 projects to support the decarbonisation of Stepney All Saints School, St Luke’s Church of England School, St John’s Highbury Vale Primary School, St Barnabas Church of England Primary School, Monken Hadley, St Paul’s Mill Hill Primary School, Laleham Primary School and St John’s Church of England Primary School. Existing gas heating systems at all sites will be replaced with air source heat pumps and a range of energy efficiency measures will also be undertaken including the fitting of roof insulation, dry wall lining, double glazing, secondary glazing, heat recovery ventilation, new LED lighting, wall and loft insulation and high efficiency fans.

London Fire Brigade

The London Fire Brigade has been awarded £1,426,877 to decarbonise 5 fire stations: Bethnal Green Fire Station, Chelsea Fire Station, Edmonton Fire Station, Hainault Fire Station and Islington Fire Station. The existing gas boilers at all sites will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed at Bethnal Green and Chelsea Fire Stations. A range of energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the sites, including cavity wall insulation, draught proofing, roof insulation, double glazing, LED lighting, energy efficient ovens, and building energy management systems.

Metropolitan Police Service

The Metropolitan Police Service has been awarded £9,483,959 to upgrade 14 police stations across London. Air source heat pumps will be installed in each of the police stations, with additional electric heating to be installed in one of the stations. Energy efficiency improvements will also be installed across multiple sites, including double glazing and cavity wall insulation.

New City College Group

New City College Group has been awarded £1,673,738 for 2 projects at the Redbridge Campus in Romford and Rainham Campus in Havering. Existing gas heating systems will be replaced with air and water source heat pumps. Roof insulation will also be installed at both sites to increase the energy efficiency of the buildings.

Newham College of Further Education

Newham College of Further Education has been awarded £833,807 to install an air source heat pump and an electric boiler at their Stratford Campus in East London.

Royal Borough of Greenwich

The Royal Borough of Greenwich has been awarded £1,968,603 to install air source heat pumps and draught proofing in 7 primary schools: Cardwell Primary School, Ealdham Primary School, Haimo Primary School Junior, Haimo Primary School for infants, Newhaven School, Conway Primary School and Alexander McLeod Primary School.

Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea

Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has been awarded £3,654,475 to decarbonise Chelsea Sports Centre, All Saints Catholic College, Avondale Park Primary School, Colville Primary School and St Francis of Assisi Primary School. Existing gas heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all sites, while water source heat pumps will also be installed at Chelsea Sports Centre. Solar thermal will also be fitted across all building projects.

Transport for London

Transport for London has been awarded £592,380 to support the decarbonisation of Therapia Lane Tramlink depot, a tram depot in Croydon. Old gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, infrared panel heaters, and point-of-use electric water heaters. Solar panels will also be installed, and the energy efficiency of the depot will be improved through the installation of a new ventilation system, roof insulation and LED lighting.

University of Greenwich

University of Greenwich has been awarded £370,926 to decarbonise the university’s gym building. The gas fired heating system will be replaced with a ground source heat pump, and the energy efficiency of the building will be improved through the installation of roof and floor insulation, dry wall lining, double glazing and new LED lighting.

University of Westminster

The University of Westminster has been awarded £1,175,488 to decarbonise the main block at its Harrow Campus, which houses its music, fine art, mixed media and fashion studios. The existing old gas heating system will be replaced with air source heat pumps and solar thermal will be installed. A range of energy efficiency measures will also be undertaken, including the fitting of roof and wall insulation, double glazing, heating pipework insulation, hot water flow restrictors, high efficiency motors and the centralisation of the lighting control system.

Westminster City Council

Westminster City Council has been awarded £3,829,522 to decarbonise 8 council buildings, including 2 primary schools, 3 community centres, 2 libraries, and Seymour Leisure Centre. Air source heat pumps will be installed at all sites, with solar panels also to be installed at the leisure centre, a school and a community centre. A range of energy efficiency measures will also be installed at 5 of the buildings, including heating pipework insulation, double glazing, roof and loft insulation, and LED lighting.

Whittington Health NHS Trust, North London

Whittington Health NHS Trust in North London has been awarded £2,499,367 to upgrade Hornsey Rise Health Centre, Northern Health Centre, River Place Health Centre and a building at Whittington Hospital which provides physiotherapy, social work services and residential accommodation. The installation of air source heat pumps and work to upgrade building energy management systems will take place in all 4 buildings, and solar panels will also be installed in the 3 health centres.

Across regions

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has been awarded £2,018,391 to support the decarbonisation of 17 office buildings across the country, including locations in Chelmsford, Ipswich, Kidderminster, Lichfield, Oxford and Rye. Old gas fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps at each office building. Solar panels and a variety of energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the buildings, including LED lighting, upgrades to building energy management systems, loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs is based in Greater London and will invest this funding at sites across the UK.

Department for Work and Pensions

The Department for Work and Pensions has been awarded £1,975,190 to decarbonise 5 office buildings across the UK. The gas fired boilers at all sites will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed at 4 sites. A range of energy efficiency measures will also be installed across the buildings, including new LED lighting, loft and cavity wall insulation and double glazing.

Harris Federation

Harris Federation has been awarded £12,425,331 to replace gas boilers with air source heat pumps in 11 schools. These consist of 4 primary schools: Harris Primary Academies Peckham Park, Croydon, Benson, and Harris Garrard Academy; and 7 secondary schools: Harris Academies Bermondsey, Chafford Hundred, Merton, South Norwood, Peckham, Rainham, and Harris Girls’ Academy East Dulwich.

Royal Botanic Gardens

The Royal Botanic Gardens has been awarded £4,565,106 to decarbonise the Princess of Wales Conservatory, a glasshouse with 10 climate zones at Kew Gardens in London, and 6 buildings at the Wakehurst estate in Mid Sussex, the home of the Millennium Seed Bank. The existing oil boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, electric point-of-use heaters and a biomass boiler, and energy efficiency measures will be installed across the estate. These include hot water electric point-of-use heaters, heating distribution improvements, draught proofing, motor replacement, loft insulation and building energy management systems.

Science Museum Group

The Science Museum Group has been awarded £5,704,880 for 3 projects to decarbonise 6 buildings across its estate. At the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, 3 buildings will be upgraded: the Grade II listed New Warehouse, the Grade I listed 1830 Warehouse, and the Station Building. Station Hall will be upgraded at the National Railway Museum in York. Offices and the research store will be upgraded at the National Collections Centre in Swindon. A range of heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures will be installed across the buildings, including air source heat pumps, point-of-use electric water heaters, insulation, building energy management systems, LED lighting, lighting controls, heating zone controls and variable speed drives.

Scotland

Home Office

The Home Office has been granted £535,860 to install air source heat pumps at the Festival Court office buildings in Glasgow, a centre for visas and immigration. Draught proofing and loft insulation will also be installed, alongside upgrades to the building energy management system in both buildings.

The Home Office is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in Scotland.

Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence has been awarded £686,011 to decarbonise Glencorse Barracks, a British Army base and one of the 3 barracks which make up the City of Edinburgh Garrison. An old gas fired boiler will be replaced with a new air source heat pump. Energy efficiency measures such as draught-proofing, loft insulation, LED lighting, automatic doors, and upgrades to the building energy management system will also be installed.

The Ministry of Defence is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in Scotland.
