Phase 1 Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme: summaries of completed projects

North East

Consilium Academies: Heworth Grange School, Gateshead

Consilium Academies has upgraded all lighting at Heworth Grange School in Gateshead with energy efficient LED lighting.

Darlington Borough Council

Darlington Borough Council has implemented energy and low carbon heating measures in its Town Hall and the Hippodrome Theatre. At both buildings, gas boilers for the hot water supply have been replaced with air source heat pumps. At the Town Hall, solar panels were installed and all lighting upgraded to energy efficient LED lighting. Energy controls to loading bay areas and catering equipment were also installed at the Hippodrome Theatre.

Durham County Council

Durham County Council has delivered 3 projects. Air source heat pumps and solar panels have been installed at Abbey Leisure Centre and the Crimdon Dunes café and coastal hub. The energy efficiency of the Meadowfield depot was also improved through the installation of solar panels, LED lighting, new workshop heaters, upgrades to the air handling plant and the installation of automatic speed gates to a workshop.

Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council

Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council has delivered 6 projects. 6 sites were upgraded in total, including 2 storage depots, a sports ground, a leisure centre and 2 offices. A solar panel carport system was installed at Gateshead Civic Centre. In addition, the storage depots and sports ground were connected to the district heat network and solar panels were installed at 4 sites, including 2 solar farms built to provide renewable energy.

Hartlepool Borough Council

Hartlepool Borough Council has installed energy efficient LED lighting in Hartlepool Civic Centre, Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre, Brierton Sports Centre, and the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. An air source heat pump was also installed at the Masefield Centre.

Newcastle-upon-Tyne City Council

Newcastle-upon-Tyne City Council has delivered 6 projects through installing heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures in 15 schools, 6 offices, 3 leisure centres including Walker Activity Dome Leisure Centre, 2 libraries, an entertainment hall, the Discovery Museum and several car parks. Measures installed included air source heat pumps, solar panels, electric heating, ventilation, and electrical infrastructure upgrades, alongside business energy management system upgrades, insulation, double glazing, secondary glazing and LED lighting. At Walker Activity Dome Leisure Centre, gas heating was replaced with air source heat pumps. The district heat network from the Helix District Energy Centre in Newcastle was connected to Blandford House where the Discovery Museum is situated.

North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has installed an air source heat pump at Redcar Ambulance Station. This allowed the previous gas fired heating system to be removed which eliminated gas usage at the building.

North Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council

North Tyneside Council has delivered 4 projects, replacing ageing gas boilers with air source heat pumps at 4 sports centres. The energy efficiency of each building was also improved through replacing single glazed windows with double glazing and installing LED lighting and additional insulation.

Northumberland County Council

Northumberland County Council has upgraded heating systems in a leisure centre, a fire station and 4 schools, all of which now utilise low carbon ground source heat pumps.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has upgraded North Tyneside General Hospital. The previous steam heating systems and the ageing combined heat and power unit have been replaced with a low temperature water heating system. In addition, solar panels have been installed on the roof, alongside cavity wall insulation and double glazing throughout the hospital buildings.

Redcar and Cleveland Council

Redcar and Cleveland Council has installed solar panels and air source heat pumps across 7 sites, including operational sites and administrative buildings.

South Tyneside Council

South Tyneside Council has delivered 4 energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation projects to install heat pumps, solar panels and a solar thermal system, and LED lighting in a range of council-owned buildings, including schools, children’s centres, council operated sites and Jarrow pool. The grant also contributed towards the delivery of Holborn Renewable Energy Network Scheme, which is utilising mine water as part of a district heating system to serve various buildings within South Shields.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has delivered 3 projects, installing LED lighting at the sports pitches at Northfield School and the Infinity Bridge in Stockton, as well as solar panels at the council’s main depot building.

Sunderland City Council

Sunderland City Council has installed air source heat pumps in 8 buildings, including City Hall, administrative offices, managed workspaces, libraries, children’s nurseries and a care home.

University of Sunderland

The University of Sunderland has replaced the gas boiler plant with 5 air source heat pumps at St Mary’s Childcare Centre, a 19th century Grade II listed building. All radiators in the building have been replaced for compatibility with heat pump temperatures and the electrical connection from the campus sub-station was also upgraded.

Yorkshire and the Humber

Abbey Lane Primary School, Sheffield

Abbey Lane Primary School in Sheffield has upgraded all light fittings in its old school building with new, energy efficient LED alternatives.

Abbey Multi Academy Trust, Leeds

Abbey Multi Academy Trust has delivered energy and low carbon heating measures in primary schools and 3 secondary schools. Heat pumps and solar panels were installed across the sites, alongside LED lighting, building energy management systems, pipework improvements and insulation pipework.

Astrea Academy Trust: Castle Academy, Doncaster

Astrea Academy Trust has installed LED lighting at Castle Academy in Doncaster.

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council has delivered 2 projects by upgrading various buildings managed by the council. Air source heat pumps, solar panels and LED lighting were installed in 8 buildings, including leisure centres, the Town Hall and the council’s main office buildings. The building energy management systems in 11 secondary schools were also improved and inefficient electric motors were replaced.

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council has installed heat pumps and roof insulation at 6 historic public buildings.

Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council

Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council has upgraded Askern Leisure Centre, which at the time was one of only 2 remaining coal heated leisure centres in England. The coal fired boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels with battery storage were installed to provide a source of renewable energy. Single glazed windows were also replaced with double glazing and additional insulation was installed to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has delivered 3 projects by installing heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures in council-owned buildings including Bridlington Spa, County Hall and the Beverley depot in Annie Reed Road. Air source heat pumps were installed for both hot water and heating systems alongside insulation, double glazing, and plant room insulation improvements.

Hall Cross Academy Trust: Hall Cross Academy, Doncaster

Hall Cross Academy Trust in Doncaster has installed LED lighting at Hall Cross Academy.

Hambleton District Council

Hambleton District Council has installed air source heat pumps and solar panels at 4 leisure centres. Each leisure centre installed new LED lighting. Building energy management system upgrades and improved electrical infrastructure were also installed to increase the overall energy efficiency of each site.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust has delivered 2 projects which upgraded its hospital buildings. A heat pump was installed to replace a fossil fuel heating system and new air handling and air conditioning units were installed to improve the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning of its site. In addition, roof insulation and window replacements were installed to improve the energy efficiency of its buildings.

Harrogate Borough Council

Harrogate Borough Council delivered 2 projects which have implemented energy and low carbon heating measures at the Hydro leisure centre. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed, alongside air handling units, LED lighting, and energy monitoring and control systems.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust implemented a range of energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation upgrades, including the installation of solar panels and heat pumps, new roof insulation, the replacement of all fluorescent lighting to LED lighting, and the replacement of inefficient air compressors. These measures were installed across all the Trust’s sites, including Hull Royal Infirmary, Castle Hill Hospital, Sterile Services Unit and Sykes Street artificial limb unit.

Kingston-upon-Hull City Council

Kingston-upon-Hull City Council has installed LED lighting in 10 of its largest buildings, reducing the council’s energy consumption.

L.E.A.D Multi-Academy Trust, Sheffield

L.E.A.D Multi-Academy Trust in Sheffield has upgraded 19 academies. Solar panels, LED lighting, double glazing and an energy monitoring and metering system were installed.

Learning Accord Multi Academy Trust: Helme Church of England Academy, Holmfirth

Learning Accord Multi Academy Trust has converted all lighting to LED lighting at Helme Church of England Academy in Holmfirth.

Leeds Beckett University

Leeds Beckett University has connected several university buildings to Leeds City Council’s district heating network, ‘Leeds PIPES’. The heat network uses heat generated by processing waste, reducing the university’s reliance on fossil fuels.

Leeds City Council

Leeds City Council has undertaken a range of energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation upgrades through 5 projects. 4 listed civic buildings have been connected to the city’s waste-powered heating network, and measures such as air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting and building energy management systems were installed across 40 sites.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has delivered multiple energy efficiency and decarbonisation measures. This has included the installation of a heat pump, improvements to site-wide heating, connecting several buildings to the Leeds district heating scheme, installation of solar panels and battery storage, upgrades to the building energy management system, and the installation of LED lighting.

North East Lincolnshire Council

North East Lincolnshire Council has upgraded 5 buildings though a variety of energy efficiency and low carbon heating measures, including the installation of heat pumps, solar panels, battery storage, new building energy management systems, and energy efficient hot water taps and lighting.

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust

Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust has delivered energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures. At Goole, the use of coal was discontinued as the coal fired boilers were replaced with a low carbon combined heat and power system. Old lighting was replaced with energy efficient LED lighting, new insulation was fitted, and the building energy management system was also upgraded. At Scunthorpe, LED lighting and double glazing was installed alongside upgrades to its building energy management systems.

North Lincolnshire Council

North Lincolnshire Council has upgraded the Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre in Barton upon Humber. Solar panels were installed on the roof to provide renewable energy for the centre alongside new LED lighting.

North Yorkshire County Council

North Yorkshire County Council has replaced single glazed windows with double glazing at 22 schools, 2 elderly persons’ homes, a library, and an office building.

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has installed and upgraded the building energy management systems across 4 council-owned sites.

Scarborough Borough Council

Scarborough Borough Council has improved the energy efficiency of its Town Hall by replacing old windows with new energy efficient double glazing.

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has delivered 2 projects which upgraded several of their hospital sites. Insulation and window glazing improvements were made at the Trust’s acute hospital site, alongside upgrades to building energy management systems and the replacement of 2 chillers which supported the theatre complex and oncology unit. LED lighting and double glazing were also installed at several other Trust buildings.

Sheffield City Council

Sheffield City Council delivered a range of upgrades across 3 sites, including at the Town Hall, the Moor Market and Acre Hill storage depot. Air source heat pumps, solar panels and building energy management systems were installed alongside draught proofing and discreet heating controls.

Star Multi Academy Trust

Star Multi Academy Trust has delivered 2 projects to replace old light fittings with energy efficient LED lighting at Kirk Fenton Church of England Primary School and Tadcaster Grammar School, both in Tadcaster.

University of Bradford

The University of Bradford has increased the energy efficiency of its Richmond and Horton buildings at their city centre campus by replacing single glazed windows with double glazing and installing new cladding to the exteriors of the buildings to improve insulation.

University of Leeds

The University of Leeds delivered 2 projects to install electric heaters, electric heater batteries, and LED lighting across 3 university buildings: the School of Chemical and Process Engineering, Baines Wing School of Health Care, and Beech Grove House.

University of Sheffield

The University of Sheffield has upgraded electricity and heat metering in 17 buildings to improve the energy efficiency of the overall site.

Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority

Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority has delivered heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency improvements across a range of buildings, including the Dales Countryside Museum and Malham and Aysgarth information centres. Ageing heating systems were replaced with air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed to provide a source of renewable energy. In addition, old lighting was replaced with LED lighting in all properties.

York St John University

York St John University has installed heat pumps and solar panels at multiple sites, as well as an energy storage system.

North West

Aquinas College, Stockport

Aquinas College in Stockport has installed LED lighting in the main college building.

Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education

Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education has undertaken heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects across 27 schools. Measures included the installation of air source and ground source heat pumps, as well as improvements to insulation and the replacement of single glazing windows with more energy efficient double glazing. Solar panels were also fitted on the roofs of 18 schools to provide them with renewable energy.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council has upgraded 13 of its buildings which had the highest energy consumption. Air source heat pumps, LED lighting, solar panels, and new building energy management systems were installed across the sites.

Burnley College

Burnley College has installed air source heat pumps in their newest campus building, alongside solar panels to generate renewable energy. All lighting in the existing college buildings was also upgraded to LED lighting.

Cheshire East Borough Council

Cheshire East Borough Council has installed solar panels and new LED lighting at multiple depots, office buildings and leisure centres across the Borough. In addition, an air source heat pump was installed at Macclesfield Town Hall and the main visitor attraction at Tatton Park was upgraded with new insulation. A substation was also upgraded to strengthen its connection to the heat network in Crewe.

Cheshire West and Chester Council

Cheshire West and Chester Council have installed air source heat pumps, solar panels, and LED lighting across 14 council-owned buildings, including 4 schools, 6 leisure centres, a museum and office sites.

Christie NHS Foundation Trust

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust has delivered decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across the hospital site, through the installation of an air source heat pump as well as solar panels, battery storage, and energy efficient LED lighting. Energy efficient fans, pipe insulation, and a new building energy management system were also installed.

Eden District Council

Eden District Council has upgraded the Voreda House office building. Solar panels and an air source heat pump were installed, as well as triple glazed windows to prevent heat loss.

Ellesmere Port Catholic High School, Cheshire

Ellesmere Port Catholic High School in Cheshire has installed LED lighting and motion sensors across the school.

Greater Manchester Combined Authority

Greater Manchester Combined Authority partnered with 16 bodies to deliver decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across 10 districts of Greater Manchester. These included Manchester College, Transport for Greater Manchester, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Greater Manchester Police, the Royal Northern College of Music, and various other buildings within its portfolio, such as leisure centres, schools, and offices. 30 primary schools, 6 high schools and 3 further education colleges were also upgraded alongside 22 leisure centres. Building upgrades included the installation of air source heat pumps, solar panels with battery storage capacity, insulation, LED lighting and energy monitoring and control systems.

Halton Borough Council

Halton Borough Council has replaced gas boilers with air source heat pumps at DCBL Stadium. Energy efficiency measures were also undertaken through the installation of LED lighting, double glazing and insulation.

Hyndburn Borough Council

Hyndburn Borough Council has upgraded Hyndburn Leisure Centre, Accrington Crematorium and the council’s head office at Scaitcliffe House. Air source heat pumps, solar panels, and LED lighting were installed across the sites.

Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council

Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council installed air source heat pumps, solar panels and LED lighting at 2 buildings in Court Hey Park. LED lighting and solar panels were also installed within the River Alt Resource Centre.

Lancashire County Council

Lancashire County Council has delivered 3 decarbonisation projects throughout the local authority. The council delivered improvements across several libraries through replacing fossil fuel heating systems with air to water heat pumps, as well as installing solar panels and replacing single glazed windows with double glazing.

Lancaster City Council

Lancaster City Council has upgraded 11 sites including depots, town halls, museums, fire stations and a leisure centre. The core of the project was the full decarbonisation of Salt Ayre Leisure Centre, making it one of the first leisure centres to be entirely carbon neutral.

Liverpool Diocesan Board of Education

Liverpool Diocesan Board of Education has upgraded 7 primary schools. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed, as well as loft insulation, roof insulation and double glazing.

Malbank School and Sixth Form College, Nantwich

Malbank School and Sixth Form College in Nantwich has installed new energy efficient LED lighting fixtures across its buildings.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust delivered decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across 6 buildings. The Trust installed an air source heat pump and solar panels, as well as electric heating, double glazing and various insulation improvements.

Mount St Joseph, Manchester

Mount St Joseph school in Manchester has installed new, energy efficient LED lighting.

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has upgraded the lighting at Penrith Hospital to more efficient LED lighting.

Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council

Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council installed air source heat pumps at the Council’s new Eco-Centre and operational depot at Alexandra Park.

Queen Katherine School Multi Academy Trust: Queen Katherine School, Cumbria

The Queen Katherine School Multi Academy Trust has installed new LED lighting across a range of buildings at Queen Katherine School in Kendal.

Science and Industry Museum, Manchester

The Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, part of the Science Museum Group, has refurbished the Museum’s Grade II listed Power Hall through upgrades to mechanical and electrical systems, internal walls, floors, roof, doors, and windows. The funding also delivered the infrastructure for a site-wide water source heat pump, as well as ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps.

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council has installed energy efficiency measures including roof insulation and double glazing at Bootle and Southport Town Halls.

South Ribble Borough Council

South Ribble Borough Council has implemented decarbonisation measures at the Civic Centre in Leyland. Solar panels with battery storage were installed to generate electricity and upgrades were made to the building energy management system. Energy efficiency water heaters and LED lighting improvements were also undertaken.

St Luke’s Church of England Primary School, Merseyside

St Luke’s Church of England Primary School in Merseyside replaced all internal and external lights across the school with LED lighting. Building energy management control systems were also installed.

St Peter’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Newchurch

St Peters Roman Catholic Primary School in Newchurch has replaced their gas boiler with an air source heat pump. The school also upgraded the lighting to energy efficient LED lighting.

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy, Lancashire

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy in Lancashire installed solar panels on the Academy’s roof.

Wirral Metropolitan College

Wirral Metropolitan College has installed solar panels equipped with additional energy storage across 3 of its main campus buildings. Building energy management systems and new LED lighting was also installed to reduce the college’s overall energy consumption.

Yesoiday HaTorah Multi Academy Trust

Yesoiday HaTorah Multi Academy Trust has increased the energy efficiency of 2 academies at its Sedgley Park site in Prestwich. Building and energy monitoring services were installed as well as new LED lighting.

East Midlands

Amber Valley Borough Council

Amber Valley Borough Council has installed a ground source heat pump in the council’s main offices in Ripley. Timber framed windows were replaced with double glazing, roof and wall insulation were upgraded, and energy efficient LED lighting was installed.

Bassetlaw District Council

Bassetlaw District Council has decarbonised Kilton Golf Club House. An oil-fired boiler was replaced with an air source heat pump alongside installation of solar panels, and upgrades to internal walls, floors, roof, doors, and windows.

Derbyshire County Council

Derbyshire County Council has replaced fossil fuel boilers at Buxton Junior School with an air source heat pump and installed solar panels on the school rooftop to generate renewable energy.

Derbyshire Dales District Council

Derbyshire Dales District Council has installed air source heat pumps and solar panels at Ashbourne Leisure Centre. The building’s energy management systems were also upgraded.

Dunholme St Chad’s Church of England Primary School, Lincolnshire

Dunholme St Chad’s Church of England Primary School in Lincolnshire has replaced all light fittings throughout the school with energy efficient LED lighting.

East Midlands Education Trust: The Ripley Academy, Derbyshire

East Midlands Education Trust has delivered improvements across Ripley Academy secondary school and sixth form. Coal-fired boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps and an ageing, uninsulated rooftop was replaced with a modern high performance insulated roof.

Erewash Borough Council

Erewash Borough Council has replaced outdated electrical storage heaters with new energy efficient storage heaters.

Kirby Muxloe Primary School, Leicestershire

Kirby Muxloe Primary School in Leicestershire has installed LED lighting throughout the school, including at its swimming pool.

Kirkby-La-Thorpe Church of England Primary School, Lincolnshire

Kirkby-La-Thorpe Church of England Primary School in Lincolnshire has replaced their fossil fuel boiler with an air source heat pump.

Leicester City Council

Leicester City Council has delivered 3 projects to upgrade 93 buildings, including 55 schools. A variety of measures were installed, including air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting, ceiling insulation, double glazing and building energy management system upgrades.

Leicestershire County Council

Leicestershire County Council has upgraded County Hall, Embankment House and Beaumanor Hall. At County Hall, the heat network was extended and solar panels and LED lighting were installed. Solar panels were also installed at Embankment House and air source heat pumps were installed at Beaumanor Hall. All 3 sites received building energy management system upgrades.

North East Derbyshire District Council

North East Derbyshire District Council has upgraded Eckington Pool and Fitness Centre. A new air source heat pump was installed alongside solar panels with battery storage. A variety of energy efficiency measures were also implemented, including insulation, double glazing, motor controls and business energy management system upgrades.

Nottingham City Council

Nottingham City Council delivered 2 projects to upgrade Rosehill School and the council’s main headquarters at Loxley House. At Rosehill School, a modern heating control system was installed and at Loxley House, energy efficient LED lighting with a smart control system was fitted.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has delivered upgrades to the heating systems at Nottingham City Hospital. A new energy centre was built to replace coal fired boilers, alongside the installation of heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting and a new low temperature hot water distribution system.

Nottinghamshire County Council

Nottinghamshire County Council has delivered 2 projects which decarbonised Hagg Farm Environmental Education Centre and Gedling View Children’s Centre. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed at both sites. At Hagg Farm Environmental Education Centre, a heat recovery ventilation system was also fitted alongside new LED lighting at Gedling View Children’s Centre.

Priory Federation of Academies Trust

Priory Federation of Academies Trust has installed solar panels across 5 of its schools: Lincoln Academy, Pembroke Academy, Priory Academy LSST, Witham Academy and Belvoir Academy. Real-time metering was also installed to enable the Trust to monitor solar energy production and total energy consumption.

Rushcliffe Borough Council

Rushcliffe Borough Council has installed energy efficient LED lighting in several of its operational properties.

University of Leicester

The University of Leicester has upgraded its building energy management systems and monitoring software. The university replaced 5 of its existing transformers, upgraded external lighting controls on its Central and Oadby campuses, and replaced old refrigeration units with new energy efficient models in one of the university’s research buildings.

UK Research and Innovation: Natural Environment Research Council

The Natural Environment Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation, has installed air source heat pumps and solar panels at the British Geological Survey in Keyworth.

UK Research and Innovation is based in the South West invested this funding in the East Midlands.

West Lindsey District Council

West Lindsey District Council has installed rooftop solar panels at a new waste depot.

West Midlands

Birmingham Diocesan Multi Academy Trust

Birmingham Diocesan Multi Academy Trust has improved the energy efficiency of their buildings by installing double glazing, LED lighting and energy metering.

Blue Coat Church of England Academy, Walsall

Blue Coat Church of England Academy in Walsall has replaced poorly insulated windows in the school with double glazing.

Bromsgrove District Council

Bromsgrove District Council has replaced fossil fuel heating systems with a low carbon heating alternative at Artrix Theatre. Solar panels were also installed, alongside a new building energy management system and LED lighting to reduce overall electricity demand and energy costs.

Coventry City Council

Coventry City Council has undertaken 2 projects that have upgraded 37 council sites including primary schools, social care centres, libraries, and administrative offices. A variety of measures were installed across the sites, including heat pumps, solar panels, insulation, double glazing, and smart heating controls.

Diocese of Coventry Multi Academy Trust

Diocese of Coventry Multi Academy Trust has installed LED lighting at St Nicolas Church of England Academy in Nuneaton and Harris Church of England Academy in Rugby.

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council has delivered heating and energy improvements across various council buildings including schools and the Grade II listed Himley Hall. Heat pumps, solar panels, battery storage and LED lighting were installed across the buildings.

Hereford Sixth Form College

Hereford Sixth Form College has installed smart self-learning LED lighting in 5 buildings to improve their energy efficiency.

Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Birmingham

Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Birmingham has delivered energy efficiency improvements across the school site. Insulation was installed in classrooms and the main hall where there was previously no insulation. In addition, LED lighting was fitted and energy efficient controls were added to fridges and freezers in the school kitchen and staffrooms.

Keele University

Keele University has delivered 3 projects that upgraded university facilities. Pipe and valve insulation, the installation of immersion heaters, and LED lighting have all helped to increase the energy efficiency of the campus. A heating control system was also installed to regulate energy use in 10 academic and residential buildings.

Lichfield District Council

Lichfield District Council has delivered 2 projects to decarbonise Burntwood Leisure Centre, Lichfield District Council Office and Beacon Park Pavilion. An air source heat pump, solar panels, LED lighting and a new building energy management system were all installed at the leisure centre and the heating systems of the council office and Beacon Park Pavilion were also upgraded to make them compatible with a renewable heat source that is due to be installed in the near future.

Malvern Hills District Council

Malvern Hills District Council has installed secondary glazing, internal wall insulation, pipework insulation and a more efficient cooling system at Malvern Theatres, alongside upgrading the building energy management system.

Redditch Borough Council

Redditch Borough Council has installed air source heat pumps, secondary glazing and new building energy management systems at Redditch Town Hall and Greenland’s Business Centre.

Ridgeway Academy Trust: Ridgeway Secondary School, Worcestershire

Ridgeway Academy Trust has installed energy efficient LED lighting at Ridgeway Secondary School in Worcestershire.

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council has decarbonised 9 council sites. A variety of measures were installed, including heat pumps, solar panels and building energy management system upgrades.

Shropshire Council

Shropshire Council has installed air source heat pumps, solar panels and LED lighting at 4 council buildings.

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council

Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council has delivered preparatory works for the first phase of the Solihull Town Centre Low Carbon Heat Network. The plant rooms and the efficiency of the heating systems were improved at both The Core library and theatre complex and the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre to prepare them for connection to the heat network. LED lighting was also installed at the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre.

South Staffordshire Council

South Staffordshire Council has installed solar panels, a battery energy storage system, a solar thermal system, and a building energy management system across the council’s office buildings.

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has expanded their building energy management system at Warwick Hospital. Controllers and monitoring systems were also installed on the hospital’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning plants to maximise their energy efficiency.

Staffordshire County Council

Staffordshire County Council has decarbonised 22 school buildings. At multiple sites, oil boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps. Pipe work was also insulated, and building energy management systems and water heater timers were fitted to maximise their energy efficiency.

St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School, Warwickshire

St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School in Warwickshire has installed cavity wall insulation, pipework insulation and LED lighting across its buildings. Energy efficient controls were also added to the fridges, freezers and electric hot water heaters.

St John Paul II Multi Academy, Birmingham

St John Paul II Multi Academy in Birmingham has installed LED lighting with sensor controls at 6 school sites.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has upgraded Fenton Leisure Centre and various other buildings managed by the council. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed, alongside insulation as well as upgrades to the building energy management systems.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust has replaced a centralised steam heating system with an efficient low temperature hot water heating system, incorporating heat pumps.

University of Worcester

The University of Worcester has upgraded a range of buildings at its St John’s campus. Roof insulation and double glazing were fitted in multiple academic buildings and solar thermal systems were installed on the rooftop of various halls of residences.

Warwickshire County Council

Warwickshire County Council has installed 2 variable air conditioning systems which can operate simultaneously in heating and cooling modes at a fire station and a care home within its authority and has also installed a large array of roof mounted solar panels at Eliot Park Innovation Centre in Nuneaton.

Windsor Academy Trust: Windsor High School and Sixth Form, Dudley

Windsor Academy Trust has delivered energy efficiency improvements and heat decarbonisation measures across several Trust schools, covering a range of buildings. Solar panels were installed as well as double glazing, LED lighting and additional insulation.

Wolverhampton City Council

Wolverhampton City Council has installed LED lighting and upgraded air handling units at sites which will be connected to a future district heating scheme. These improvements have improved the energy efficiency of the buildings before they are connected to the heat network.

Worcestershire County Council

Worcestershire County Council has installed energy efficiency and renewable energy measures across 27 council sites. A variety of projects were delivered, including the installation of solar panels, LED lighting, double glazing, draught proofing, variable speed drives as well as upgrades to the building energy management system at several sites.

Wychavon District Council

Wychavon District Council has improved the energy efficiency of the council’s Civic Centre offices. Double glazing was installed and the building energy management system was improved.

Wye Valley NHS Trust

Wye Valley NHS Trust has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at the County Hospital in Hereford. Ground source heat pumps were installed and connected to an ambient loop heat network and solar panels and LED lighting were also fitted.

East of England

Ashley School Academy Trust: The Ashley School, Suffolk

The Ashley School in Suffolk, part of the Ashley School Academy Trust, has installed air source heat pumps in 2 of their residential houses and swimming pool. In addition, solar panels were installed to provide a renewable source of energy. The school also switched to LED lighting and improved the insulation of their buildings through upgrading its cavity walls insulation.

Bedford College Group

Bedford College Group has implemented low carbon heating and energy efficiency measures in several buildings across Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. These included the installation of a water source heat pump, solar panels, roof insulation and energy efficient water heaters and taps.

Cambridge City Council

Cambridge City Council delivered 2 projects to upgrade Parkside Pools and Gym and the Abbey Leisure Complex. Air source and ground source heat pumps and solar panels were installed to provide low carbon heating and renewable energy alongside LED lighting, improved insulation, and building energy management system upgrades.

Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust: Swavesey Village College, Cambridgeshire

Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust has installed additional metering and building energy management system upgrades at Swavesey Village College.

Cambridgeshire County Council

Cambridgeshire County Council has delivered 3 projects to install air source heat pumps in 21 buildings, including community centres, libraries, and offices. Solar panels, double glazing, metering, and electricity supply upgrades were also installed at several sites.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has decarbonised part of the cooling and heating for the Rosie Maternity Hospital on its main Cambridge campus. Work undertaken included the installation of a new air source heat pump to replace the outdated gas fired hot water supply system. Solar panels were also installed alongside battery storage and upgrades to the electrical network.

Colchester Borough Council

Colchester Borough Council has replaced ageing gas boilers with an air source heat pump in their main office building. Roof insulation, LED lighting, and a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system were also fitted.

Colchester Institute

Colchester Institute has improved 2 buildings at its Colchester campus by replacing ageing gas fired boilers with air source heat pumps and installing double glazing and insulation to maximise energy efficiency. In addition, a new building energy management system was installed to allow building temperatures to be better controlled and monitored.

Compass Education Trust: The Billericay School

Compass Education Trust has replaced gas fired boilers with air source heat pumps at the Billericay School. LED lighting was also installed throughout the school and the heating distribution pipework was upgraded in one building.

East Cambridgeshire District Council

East Cambridgeshire District Council has improved the roof insulation across its offices and replaced single glazed windows with energy efficient secondary glazing. LED lighting and additional controls for radiators and heating systems were also fitted throughout the offices.

Essex County Council

Essex County Council has delivered 5 projects which have upgraded a range of council buildings. Air source heat pumps, solar panels and LED lighting were installed at Essex Records Office and the Goodman House office building, 2 of the council’s biggest energy consuming sites, and an air source heat pump was also installed at Great Notley Park. In addition, solar panels and new windows were installed on the council’s school estate and the insulation was improved at a variety of other council buildings.

Fakenham Infant and Nursery School, Norfolk

Fakenham Infant and Nursery School in Norfolk has installed cavity wall insulation, LED lighting and window replacements throughout the school.

Fakenham Junior School, Norfolk

Fakenham Junior School in Norfolk has replaced the gas fired heating system with an air source heat pump and improved the building through cavity wall insulation, LED lighting upgrades and window replacements. This will reduce carbon emissions and increase the energy efficiency of the building.

Harlow Council

Harlow Council has delivered 3 projects which have upgraded a range of council buildings. Solar panels were installed at 8 locations including Harlow Museum, the Civic Centre, the Playhouse and the Leah Manning Centre. LED lighting and energy efficient hand dryers were also fitted across the Civic Centre, Harlow Museum, and Pets Corner, a small council-owned farm located in Harlow Town Park.

Hertfordshire County Council

Hertfordshire County Council has installed heat pumps, solar panels and insulation improvements across 135 sites including schools, emergency service buildings and council offices.

Herts and Essex Multi Academy Trust, Hertfordshire

Herts and Essex Multi Academy Trust has installed new LED lighting across 2 sites.

Huntingdonshire District Council

Huntingdonshire District Council has delivered 2 projects. At Ramsey Leisure Centre, a heat pump was installed alongside energy efficiency upgrades including new glazing, cavity wall insulation and roof insulation. Other council buildings, including its headquarters at Pathfinder House, were improved through replacing new building energy management systems and replacing gas assisted air handling units with new energy efficient ones.

Ingrave Johnstone Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School

Ingrave Johnstone Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School has replaced all lighting in the school with energy efficiency LED lighting.

King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council

King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council has delivered 2 projects to decarbonise a range of council buildings, including 4 leisure centres, 2 offices and an entertainment hall. Heat pumps, solar panels, and wall and loft insulation were installed across the sites and electrical infrastructure was also upgraded.

Luton Borough Council

Luton Borough Council delivered 8 projects in which 20 schools and nurseries, 6 community centres, a library, a swimming pool, the town hall and a depot were all upgraded. In all buildings, gas boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps, and LED lighting and energy efficient radiator valves were also installed. Solar panels were installed on several buildings to provide them with a source of renewable energy.

Manningtree High School, Essex

Manningtree High School in Essex has installed roof insulation and replaced most of its lighting with LED lighting.

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust has upgraded Broomfield and Basildon University Hospitals. Double glazing and cavity wall insulation were installed at both sites, alongside new building energy management systems.

Mid Suffolk District Council

Mid Suffolk District Council has installed solar panels on the rooftops of 4 leisure centres and a works depot. Oil-fired boilers and air handling units were also replaced with air source heat pumps at 2 of these buildings.

Ministry of Justice

The Ministry of Justice has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at HMP Warren Hill, a Category C prison in Suffolk. 4 ground source heat pumps were installed alongside LED lighting. Building energy management system upgrades were also undertaken. Solar panels were installed at the nearby HMP Hollesley Bay.

The Ministry of Justice is based in Greater London and invested this funding in the East of England.

Norfolk County Council

Norfolk County Council has improved the energy efficiency of one of its fire station buildings by replacing single glazed windows and doors with double glazing. Solar panels were also installed on the roof to generate electricity, which is being used on site or exported to the national grid when generation exceeds demand.

Norwich City Council

Norwich City Council delivered 2 projects to upgrade the Grade II listed City Hall building and an environmental services depot. An air source heat pump was installed at City Hall whilst LED lighting and solar panels with battery storage were installed at the environmental services depot.

Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School, Chelmsford

Our Lady Immaculate Catholic Primary School in Chelmsford installed energy efficient LED lighting throughout all school buildings.

Saffron Academy Trust, Essex

Saffron Academy Trust in Essex has upgraded lighting with more energy efficient LED lighting in Saffron Walden County High School, Honywood School, Katherine Semar Schools, RA Butler Schools and Beckers Green School.

Scholars Education Trust, St Albans

Scholars Education Trust in St Albans has improved the energy efficiency at 5 the Trust’s schools through the installation of LED lighting, energy efficient hot water taps, thermal radiator valves, hand dryers and smart metering. Solar panels were also installed at 2 school sites to generate renewable energy.

Shenfield High School, Essex

Shenfield High School in Essex has partially decarbonised its buildings. An air source heat pump was installed to heat the swimming pool and sports centre, and solar panels were installed to generate renewable energy for the entire school site. The energy efficiency of the buildings was also improved through the installation of LED lighting and new windows.

St John Payne Catholic School, Chelmsford

St John Payne Catholic School in Chelmsford has improved the insulation and thermal efficiency of the school buildings through replacing single glazed windows with double glazing and installing empty cavity walls with insulation.

Suffolk County Council

Suffolk County Council has delivered 2 projects to upgrade buildings including fire stations, a community centre and 10 primary schools. Gas and oil-fired boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps, and energy efficiency improvements were made through the installation of new insulation throughout the buildings.

Synergy Multi Academy Trust

Synergy Multi Academy Trust has delivered 8 projects to upgrade 8 schools in Norfolk. LED lighting and insulation were installed across all schools whilst solar panels were installed at 5 sites. Single glazed windows were replaced with energy efficient double glazing at 3 schools and air source heat pumps were also installed in 2 schools, removing the need for oil and gas fired boilers.

University of Hertfordshire

The University of Hertfordshire has installed energy efficient LED lighting at its College Lane and de Havilland campuses. The new lighting has controls for light level and presence detection to reduce the energy consumption of the sites.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has delivered 3 projects to upgrade the Campus West leisure complex, Hatfield Swim Centre and Campus East council offices. At all 3 sites, gas fired boilers were replaced with combined air source heat pump and water source heat pump systems, whilst solar panels were also fitted at the Campus West site to provide it with a source of renewable energy.

West Suffolk Council

West Suffolk Council has partially decarbonised various council buildings. Air source heat pumps and solar panels with battery storage were installed at various locations. In addition, double glazing was installed and insulation improved across buildings.

Wood End School, Hertfordshire

Wood End School in Hertfordshire has installed new energy efficient LED lighting in 2 of its buildings.

South East

Adur District Council

Adur District Council has installed solar panels and air source heat pumps at various council-owned sites, including the Shoreham Centre and Shadwells Court retirement centre.

Aletheia Anglican Academies Trust: Horton Kirby Church of England Primary School

Aletheia Anglican Academies Trust has replaced oil boilers with low carbon heat pumps at Horton Kirby Church of England Primary School. New cooling systems and energy controls were also installed to improve the energy efficiency of the school.

Ashford Borough Council

Ashford Borough Council has upgraded Stour Leisure Centre through the installation of an air source heat pump. The air handling unit was also replaced, alongside upgrades to the building energy management system.

Aylesbury Grammar School, Buckinghamshire

Aylesbury Grammar School in Buckinghamshire has installed secondary glazing in 3 buildings, new windows in 2 buildings, and undertaken measures to increase the energy efficiency of the school’s swimming pool pump system.

Bracknell Forest Council

Bracknell Forest Council has delivered 2 projects to support the decarbonisation of 15 schools through the installation of cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and the replacement of single glazed windows with double glazed windows.

Buckinghamshire County Council

Buckinghamshire County Council has installed water source heat pumps and solar panels at the Chiltern Lifestyle Centre.

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has delivered 2 projects to fund heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at its High Wycombe and Amersham hospital sites. Air source heat pumps, solar panels and new LED lighting were installed, and upgrades were undertaken to improve the energy monitoring and control systems as well as the hot water distribution systems.

Cherwell District Council

Cherwell District Council has upgraded 8 of its sites, including its 4 main leisure centres. Air source heat pumps, solar panels with battery storage, LED lighting and a solar thermal system were installed across the sites. Insulation across the buildings was also improved.

Chichester District Council

Chichester District Council delivered 2 projects to support the decarbonisation of Westgate Leisure Centre and the Council House building on North Street. Air source heat pumps, solar panels and solar thermal panels were installed at both buildings, alongside battery storage for the surplus electricity generated on site. The energy efficiency of Westgate Leisure Centre was improved through changes to the air conditioning, roof insulation and metering, and energy efficient hand driers and LED lighting were also installed in the Council House building.

Dartford Borough Council

Dartford Borough Council has upgraded several Council buildings, including the Civic Centre, Temple Hill Community Centre, Manor Gatehouse, and buildings on the Acacia Hall site. Ageing gas boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps and solar panels were also installed to provide a source of renewable energy. Lighting was upgraded to more efficient LED lighting.

Defence Nuclear Organisation

The Defence Nuclear Organisation, an executive agency of the Ministry of Defence, has installed an air source heat pump, insulation pipework, and LED lighting across their Aldermaston and Burghfield sites. Further work undertaken included air compressor replacements, cooling plant upgrades and the installation of electric heating.

East Sussex County Council

East Sussex County Council has delivered 2 projects to partially decarbonise 2 primary schools and 5 other council buildings. Oil-fired boilers were replaced with new air source heat pumps at Ninfield Primary School, while solar panels with battery storage capabilities were fitted at the remaining sites.

Hampshire County Council

Hampshire County Council has delivered 5 projects to upgrade multiple council-owned buildings. Solar panels were installed at 254 sites including schools and corporate buildings, providing them with a source of renewable energy. In addition, double glazing was installed at 82 schools, libraries and children’s centres, while heating controls were upgraded in 83 schools. At 38 schools, cavity wall insulation was installed.

Horsham District Council

Horsham District Council has upgraded to 2 adjacent community buildings. Ageing gas boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels were installed to provide a source of renewable energy. LED lighting and additional insulation was also fitted.

Isle of Wight Council

Isle of Wight Council has upgraded a range of council-owned buildings, including Sandown Heights and Medina leisure centres, East Cowes and Lord Louis libraries, Branstone Farm, County Hall, Westminster House and Thompson House. Heat pumps and solar panels were installed across multiple sites and energy efficiency measures were also undertaken, including the installation of LED lighting.

Kent County Council

Kent County Council has undertaken 2 projects to upgrade 19 Council buildings, including 8 schools. Ground source heat pumps were installed at Cobham Primary School and Swattenden Outdoor Centre, while air source heat pumps were installed at 7 other sites. Solar panels were installed at 7 sites, alongside the construction of 2 solar farms. In addition, a variety of measures were installed to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings, including LED lighting, new windows, insulation and new building energy management systems.

Leigh Academies Trust, Kent

Leigh Academies Trust in Kent has installed new building energy management systems and metering across the Trust’s primary academies. LED lighting was also installed in 4 of the Trust’s larger secondary academies.

Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence has delivered 8 projects to support the decarbonisation of several buildings at Portsmouth Naval Base and the Defence Munitions Depot in Gosport. LED lighting was installed in most buildings at the Defence Munitions Depot. At Portsmouth Naval Base, solar panels were installed over parking spaces and on the rooftop of the logistics centre. LED lighting was also installed in 4 buildings and the building energy management systems were improved at 50 buildings across the site. Single glazed windows were upgraded with double glazing across several buildings.

The Ministry of Defence also delivered a project based in the South West.

Mole Valley District Council

Mole Valley District Council has delivered improvements to their main office building and Dorking Halls theatre. Air source heat pumps were installed in both buildings and the lighting at Dorking Halls was converted to energy efficient LED lighting to reduce its overall energy consumption.

Office for National Statistics

The Office for National Statistics has installed solar panels on the roof of its office at its Titchfield site.

Oxford Brookes University

Oxford Brookes University has installed a ground source heat pump to provide low carbon heating at the John Henry Brookes Energy Centre situated on campus.

Oxford City Council

Oxford City Council has installed air source heat pumps at Ferry Leisure Centre, Barton Leisure Centre and Leys Pool and Leisure Centre. A water source heat pump was also installed at the Hinksey heated outdoor swimming pool, so that the pool uses heat from the nearby Hinksey Lake.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has installed LED lighting across 4 hospital sites: John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, and Horton Hospital.

Oxfordshire County Council

Oxfordshire County Council has delivered 2 projects across 6 schools and 7 other Council buildings. Heating systems powered by fossil fuels were replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels were also installed and upgrades to the metering and electrical infrastructure were undertaken.

Portsmouth City Council

Portsmouth City Council has improved the energy efficiency of 19 housing sites, 11 schools, 7 community centres, 7 libraries, 3 commercial units, 2 offices, a museum and a large sports facility. A variety of installation work was undertaken, including fitting several sites with solar panels and battery storage, loft and cavity wall insulation, pipework insulation, LED lighting, heating controls and subsequent improvements to the building energy management systems.

Queen Mary’s College, Hampshire

Queen Mary’s College in Hampshire has installed LED lighting across several buildings.

Reading Borough Council

Reading Borough Council upgraded 22 schools and nurseries. Solar panels were installed at 20 of the schools, while LED lighting was installed at 6 schools. Double glazing and roof insulation were also fitted at 3 of the schools.

River Learning Trust, Oxfordshire

River Learning Trust in Oxfordshire has installed LED lighting in 4 secondary schools and 8 primary schools.

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has installed LED lighting across multiple schools and office buildings throughout the borough.

Royal Latin School, Buckinghamshire

The Royal Latin School in Buckinghamshire has installed new triple glazed windows and doors in a 19th century manor house and courtyard, replacing single paned windows. Solar panels were also installed, alongside roof insulation in the courtyard buildings.

Slough Borough Council

Slough Borough Council has supported the decarbonisation of 3 schools and 3 community centres. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed in all buildings, while energy efficient improvements were undertaken through various building insulation improvements.

Southampton City Council

Southampton City Council has upgraded 7 Council buildings including a depot, administrative offices and a museum. Heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting and building energy management systems were installed across the sites.

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has improved the energy efficiency of Alton Community Hospital. Energy efficient LED lighting was installed alongside upgrades to the energy controls and management systems.

Sparsholt College, Winchester

Sparsholt College in Winchester installed new energy efficient LED lighting in its buildings and street lights across the campus.

Surrey County Council

Surrey County Council has upgraded 9 buildings including an office, a library, 2 emergency services sites, a health centre, 2 nursing residential homes and 2 other council-owned buildings. Across the buildings, heat pumps were installed, as well as solar panels and new building energy management systems.

Swale Borough Council

Swale Borough Council has upgraded Masters House in Sheerness, a former Council office, into a business and social hub for the local community. An air source heat pump and LED lighting was installed, and insulation improvements were undertaken.

The Downs School, Berkshire

The Downs School in Berkshire has partially decarbonised multiple school buildings. Solar panels were installed on 2 buildings, while new windows and energy efficient LED lighting were installed across its other buildings.

University of Reading

The University of Reading has undertaken several decarbonisation measures across its campus, including installing solar panels at Whiteknights campus. LED lighting was installed across several other buildings, alongside improved sensors and controls for multiple heating and ventilation systems. Inefficient specialist laboratory and farm equipment such as drying cabinets, refrigerators and freezers were also upgraded.

University of Winchester

The University of Winchester has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures across its estate. Air source heat pumps were installed to replace gas fired boilers and solar panels were also installed. Energy efficient LED lighting was also fitted and a building energy management system was upgraded.

Vale of White Horse District Council

Vale of White Horse District Council has replaced gas fired boilers with air source heat pumps at Faringdon Leisure Centre. Solar panels were also installed on site.

Watford Borough Council

Watford Borough Council has upgraded 2 of its Grade II listed buildings, the Town Hall and Watford Colosseum. A variety of decarbonisation measures were undertaken, including the installation of solar panels, cavity wall and roof insulation, LED lighting and heat metering.

Waverley Borough Council

Waverley Borough Council has upgraded the Memorial Hall in Farnham, a multifunctional facility which houses Waverley Training Services and a community centre offering services for older people. An air source heat pump was installed, alongside solar panels to generate a supply of renewable energy.

West Berkshire Council

West Berkshire Council has upgraded schools in Hermitage, Hungerford and Thatcham Park, as well as the Thatcham Family Hub. Fossil fuel heating systems were replaced with air source heat pumps, while solar panels were installed to provide the sites with a source of renewable energy. LED lighting and building energy management systems were also fitted to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings.

Winchester City Council

Winchester City Council has upgraded its city centre office. An air source heat pump was installed and existing ceiling insulation was upgraded. Single glazed windows were also replaced with more energy efficient double glazing.

Woking Borough Council

Woking Borough Council has installed and connected water source heat pumps to its district heating network between Midas House and Export House office buildings.

Wokingham Borough Council

Wokingham Borough Council has delivered 3 projects which supported the decarbonisation of 3 Council managed sites, including Woodley Library. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed and the insulation of each building was also improved.

Worthing Borough Council

Worthing Borough Council has undertaken 2 projects. Solar panels have been installed at several Council buildings across Worthing, while upgrades have also been carried out at Worthing Town Hall, Assembly Hall and Portland House, where single glazed windows have been replaced with energy efficient double glazing.

South West

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust has installed heat pumps and solar panels at 3 inpatient units. In addition, LED lighting, pipework insulation, new energy efficient radiators and a new building energy management system were fitted to improve the Trust’s overall energy efficiency.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service

Avon Fire and Rescue Service has upgraded 10 fire stations, an emergency control centre and several technical workshops. Air source heat pumps, solar panels, a solar thermal system, and battery storage were installed across the buildings, alongside energy efficiency measures such as heating control upgrades, LED lighting and insulation.

Bath and North East Somerset Council

Bath and North East Somerset Council has implemented 2 projects which upgraded 2 council-owned sites. A water source heat pump was installed at Cleveland Pools, the UK’s oldest public outdoor swimming pools, and ground source heat pumps were installed at Charlton House care home in Keynsham. Solar panels, insulation, and energy efficient LED lighting were also fitted at the home.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has installed air source heat pumps, solar panels and building energy management systems throughout multiple council buildings.

Bristol City Council

Bristol City Council has implemented 3 projects which supported the decarbonisation of several council-owned buildings. The Bristol heat network was extended to 2 schools, a fire station, a hospital building and offices. In addition, an oil boiler was replaced with an air source heat pump at the Welsman office building, alongside the replacement of pipework and heat emitters with more energy efficient alternatives.

Cheltenham Borough Council

Cheltenham Borough Council has improved energy monitoring across council-owned properties by connecting multiple smart and sub-meters across the council’s buildings.

Cotswold District Council

Cotswold District Council has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at 2 leisure centres, a council office, and a museum storage facility. Ageing gas and oil boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps and rooftop solar panels were fitted at both leisure centres to provide them with a source of renewable energy. An air handling unit and a building energy management system were upgraded to improve plant efficiency and to reduce energy demand at both leisure centres. LED lighting was also installed.

Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust

Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust has delivered 2 projects. Air source heat pumps, solar panels and building energy management systems were installed in 8 schools. At 2 other school sites, heat pumps were installed to replace electric storage heaters and LED lighting was also fitted.

Devon County Council

Devon County Council has upgraded several council buildings through the installation of heat pumps, solar panels, insulation, LED lighting, building energy management systems, metering and heat recovery technology.

Dorset Council

Dorset Council has installed heat pumps and solar panels at over 200 council-owned buildings. Energy efficiency measures such as building insulation, LED lighting and the installation of new building energy management systems were also undertaken.

Dorset Police

Dorset Police replaced the roofing of 2 buildings at their headquarters. The roofs were also fitted with new insulation and solar panels were installed to provide a source of renewable energy.

Exeter City Council

Exeter City Council has connected meters from over 75 sites managed by the council. The building energy management system was also upgraded to reduce energy use.

Forest of Dean District Council

Forest of Dean District Council has installed solar panels with battery storage at its offices in Coleford. Energy efficiency measures were also undertaken, including the installation of LED lighting, cavity wall insulation and water heaters, as well as upgrades to lighting controls.

Gloucester City Council

Gloucester City Council has partially decarbonised Oxstalls sports and Tennis Centre, which was constructed in the late 1990s and is used by over 150,000 people each year. Gas boilers were replaced with a ground source heat pump, solar panels with battery storage were installed on the roof, and the site’s overall energy efficiency was improved through the fitting of insulation and metering.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust has installed LED lighting at Wotton Lawn Hospital, Charlton Lane Hospital, and George-Moore Community Clinic. Solar panels were also installed at Charlton Lane Hospital.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has partially decarbonised Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Heat pumps, solar panels, pipework insulation, and fan motors were fitted throughout the sites.

Kingston Maurward College

Kingston Maurward College has installed 2 low carbon district heating systems to glasshouses and a majority of its buildings in the central part its estate, including the Grade I listed Kingston Maurward House. The district heating systems are powered by ground source heat pumps, which replaced the ageing and inefficient oil and liquefied petroleum gas plant. 9 air source heat pumps were also installed across some of the college’s residential properties.

Meysey Hampton Church of England Primary School, Gloucestershire

Meysey Hampton Church of England Primary School in Gloucestershire has installed LED lighting throughout the school and installed cavity wall insulation.

Mid Devon District Council

Mid Devon District Council has upgraded 3 leisure centres through the installation of an air source heat pump and LED lighting.

Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence has installed energy efficient LED lighting in 4 buildings at its Abbey Wood office in Bristol, reducing overall energy usage across the site.

The Ministry of Defence also received funding for projects based in the South East.

North Nibley Church of England Primary School, Gloucestershire

North Nibley Church of England primary school in Gloucestershire has installed LED lighting across the school site.

Plymouth City Council

Plymouth City Council has implemented 2 projects which installed air source heat pumps at 9 council-owned sites, including the Grade II listed Guildhall. The energy efficiency of many of the sites was also improved through the installation of secondary glazing and insulation. Solar panels with battery storage were also fitted.

Poole High School

Poole High School has replaced wooden and steel framed single glazed windows with double glazing.

Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust

Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust has upgraded the energy centre at the Trust’s Wonford site to deliver spare heat from the combined heat and power system to a steam district heating system.

Somerset County Council

Somerset County Council has implemented 5 projects which have upgraded multiple council-owned buildings, including Taunton Library, Yeovil Library, Frome Library, Glastonbury Hub and County Hall. Heat pumps and solar panels were installed, alongside double glazing, insulation and upgrades to the ventilation systems. Cavity wall insulation was also fitted at Milford Infants School and loft insulation was installed at Chilthorne Domer School.

South Gloucestershire Council

South Gloucestershire Council has installed LED lighting in 8 schools, 7 libraries and its main council office. Solar panels were also fitted at 5 schools and the uninterruptible power source system at the main Council office was replaced.

South Somerset District Council

South Somerset District Council has installed heat pumps at 11 council sites. In addition, solar panels were installed at 9 of these sites and LED lighting and lighting controls upgrades were also installed at several sites.

St Andrews Church of England Primary School, Gloucestershire

St Andrews Church of England Primary School in Gloucestershire has replaced its oil-fired boiler with an air source heat pump and installed solar panels, windows with double glazing and LED lighting.

St Bede’s Catholic College, Bristol

St Bede’s Catholic College in Bristol has replaced an oil-fired heating system with an air source heat pump. Solar panels and an energy monitoring system were also installed.

Swindon Borough Council

Swindon Borough Council has installed a battery storage system at its Waterside Park recycling plant to store surplus electricity generated by the Barnfield Solar Farm.

Teignbridge District Council

Teignbridge District Council delivered 2 projects which upgraded 3 leisure centres and Forde House council offices. Newton Abbot Leisure Centre, Teignmouth Lido and Broadmeadow Sports Centre were all fitted with air source heat pumps, solar panels and battery storage, LED lighting, and upgraded building energy management systems. At Forde House council offices, a gas boiler was replaced with an air source heat pump and the insulation, ventilation system and electricity supply infrastructure were also upgraded.

Tewkesbury Borough Council

Tewkesbury Borough Council has installed a solar panel canopy at Tewkesbury Public Service Centre car park.

Torbay Council

Torbay Council has replaced gas boilers with an air source heat pump at Torbay Leisure Centre. Solar panels were also installed, alongside metering and lighting upgrades to improve the energy efficiency of the building.

UK Research and Innovation

UK Research and Innovation has upgraded their UK headquarters at Polaris House, Swindon. External lighting was upgraded with energy efficient LED lighting, alongside improved insulation in all loft spaces.

UK Research and Innovation is based in the South West and invested funding at sites across the UK. UK Research and Innovation also received funding for projects based in the East Midlands

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust has implemented 2 projects which upgraded Weston General Hospital and the Trust’s Bristol city centre campus. An air source heat pump and solar panels were installed at Weston General Hospital and modifications were also made to its heating system. At the Bristol campus, the district heating system was expanded and LED lighting was also fitted.

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust has improved the efficiency of the district heating network. The Trust also installed meters in the main boiler room to monitor boiler efficiency. Energy efficient LED lighting was installed.

University of St Mark and St John, Plymouth

The University of St Mark and St John has delivered 2 projects which installed LED lighting and a new building energy management system. Solar panels were also installed to generate renewable electricity.

Wiltshire Council

Wiltshire Council has delivered 2 projects which partially decarbonised Warminster Library and The Nadder Centre, which includes a leisure centre and a library. At Warminster Library, a heat pump and solar panels were installed, alongside cavity wall insulation and heating control upgrades. Solar panels were also fitted at the Nadder Centre.

LED lighting and draught proofing installation works, pipework and heating insulation improvements, building energy management system upgrades and new metering projects were installed across the sites.

Crowland Primary School in Haringey has installed energy efficient LED lighting across their 3 school buildings.

Culvers House Primary School, Sutton

Culvers House Primary School in Sutton has delivered energy efficiency measures in several of its school buildings. LED lighting was installed in classrooms, offices and corridors and timers were fitted to the school’s existing boilers to reduce energy consumption.

The Home Office has upgraded 3 office buildings across Greater London. Solar panels were installed on the roof of each site and the energy efficiency of the buildings was improved through the installation of LED lighting, energy efficient cooling fans and improvements to cooling systems.

Hotham Primary School in Wandsworth has upgraded lighting within the school to energy efficient LED lighting.

New lighting control systems were installed in 3 buildings and building energy management systems were improved in 46 other buildings. London Borough of Barnet has upgraded a range of council-owned buildings. Air source heat pumps were installed to reduce reliance on gas boilers, solar panels were fitted to provide a source of renewable energy, and LED lighting was installed to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings.

London Borough of Brent has upgraded 33 council-owned buildings, including 17 schools. A variety of measures were implemented, including the installation of air source heat pumps, solar panels, insulation, and new windows.

London Borough of Camden has replaced single glazed windows with double-glazing at Swiss Cottage Library and has also installed wall insulation and LED lighting.

London Borough of Croydon

London Borough of Croydon has installed LED lighting in 3 schools: Forestdale Primary School, Crosfield Nursery and Greenvale Primary School.

London Borough of Ealing

London Borough of Ealing has delivered heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures at Maples Children’s Centre, Ealing Hostel, the Short Break Service building, South Acton Children’s Centre, Acton Vale Community Centre, and Wolf Field School. A variety of measures were undertaken, including the installation of heat pumps, solar panels, insulation, double glazing, and LED lighting.

London Borough of Enfield

London Borough of Enfield has upgraded 15 council-owned buildings. Heat pumps, solar panels, insulation and double glazing were installed and a pilot connection of a school to the Borough’s low carbon heat network was undertaken.

London Borough of Hackney has installed ground source heat pumps at the West Reservoir Centre.

London Borough of Haringey

London Borough of Haringey has improved the energy efficiency of 8 primary schools through the installation of measures such as LED lighting, double glazing, and loft and roof insulation.

London Borough of Harrow has delivered 3 projects which upgraded a range of council-owned sites. Air source heat pumps and solar panels were installed at the Harrow Arts Centre complex, which includes Grade II listed Elliott Hall auditorium. Various heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures were also undertaken at 8 schools and a day care centre for elderly residents, including the installation of air source heat pumps, LED lighting and insulation.

London Borough of Hounslow has implemented 2 projects which have resulted in upgrading 32 schools and 25 other council-owned buildings. A variety of measures were installed, including heat pumps, solar panels and LED lighting.

London Borough of Southwark has upgraded 15 sites including Peckham Registry Office, Dulwich Library, Neil Gwynn Nursery School and Bishops House Children’s Centre. A variety of measures were installed, including air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting, insulation, double and secondary glazing, pipework improvements, and new building energy management systems.

London Borough of Tower Hamlets

London Borough of Tower Hamlets has replaced ageing gas boilers with air source heat pumps in 4 council buildings: Toby Lane depot, Jack Dash House and 2 children’s centres. LED lighting was also installed at Jack Dash House.

London Borough of Waltham Forest

London Borough of Waltham Forest has implemented 3 projects which has supported the decarbonisation of 12 sites across the Borough. A variety of measures were installed, including air source heat pumps, solar panels, wall and loft insulation, double glazing, and LED lighting upgrades.

London Borough of Wandsworth

London Borough of Wandsworth has installed LED lighting and lighting controls at several sites.

London Institute of Medical Sciences

London Institute of Medical Sciences has upgraded their Hammersmith Hospital site. The existing pipework insulation and building energy management system were upgraded and single glazed windows were also replaced with double glazing.

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust has installed a heat pump and solar panels with battery storage at both Northwick Park Hospital and St Mark’s Hospital. In addition, lighting systems were upgraded to LED lighting and new insulation was fitted. Monitoring, controls and metering systems were also improved.

The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine installed new windows with double glazing and energy efficient taps and freezers.

Westminster City Council

Westminster City Council has upgraded more than 60 sites, including libraries, leisure centres and council-owned offices. A variety of measures were installed across the buildings, including air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting, pipework insulation, draught proofing, and upgrades to ventilation systems and building energy management systems.

Woodcroft Primary School, Barnet

Woodcroft Primary School in Barnet has replaced fluorescent lighting across the school with new LED lighting.

Across Regions

Academies Enterprise Trust

Academies Enterprise Trust has upgraded 36 of the Trust’s academies across the country. Solar panels, energy efficient hand dryers and LED lighting was installed, and pipework insulation improvements were undertaken.

British Library

The British Library upgraded their sites in London and Boston Spa, Yorkshire. A ground source heat pump was installed at the Boston Spa site, while solar panels and LED lighting were fitted at both sites.

Department for Work and Pensions

The Department for Work and Pensions has upgraded Quarry House, one of the department’s largest sites, as well as 19 other office buildings across the country. Quarry House was connected to a low carbon district heat network. Other improvements on the site included building energy management system upgrades, solar panel installation, the replacement of thermostatic radiator valves and the fitting of LED lighting in the car park. Catering equipment was also upgraded to all-electric equipment. In addition, the building energy management systems at other office buildings across the country were improved.

The Department for Work and Pensions is based in Greater London and invested funding at sites across the UK.

Government Property Agency

The Government Property Agency has improved the energy efficiency of 19 sites. Over 20,000 new LED lights and smart lighting controls were installed, while building energy management systems were upgraded and more energy efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems were installed.

Southwark Diocesan Board of Education

The Southwark Diocesan Board of Education has installed heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures in 59 Church of England schools across South London and Surrey. A variety of measures were undertaken, including the installation of air source heat pumps, solar panels, LED lighting and improved insulation.

UK Research and Innovation: Science and Technology Facilities Council

The Science and Technology Facilities Council, part of UK Research and Innovation, has installed solar panels across 4 buildings and 2 car parks at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, located in Chilton, Oxfordshire. In addition, ground mounted solar panels and a solar carport were installed at Daresbury Laboratory which is located in Halton in Chesire.

UK Research and Innovation is based in the South West and invested funding at sites across the UK. UK Research and Innovation also received funding for projects based in the South West and East Midlands.

The Office for National Statistics has installed new LED lighting in the multistorey car park at the Office for National Statistics’ Newport site.

The Office for National Statistics also received funding for a project based in the South East of England.

Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys has upgraded 25 emergency service buildings across Powys. A variety of measures were installed, including solar panels, LED lighting, insulation, electricity meters, heating and boiler controls, and upgrades to building energy management systems.
