Pearson: Notice of monetary penalty and costs recovery (GCSE English)

Pearson has agreed to pay a fine of £750,000 over failure to identify and reduce the risk of inconsistency in grading standards over GCSE English.

Details

On 1 December 2025 Ofqual accepted a settlement proposal from Pearson following findings that it had failed to comply with its Conditions of Recognition in relation to the identification and management of risks to the alignment of grading standards following the introduction of its second GCSE English qualification.

Pearson agreed to pay a fine of £750,000, together with £5,000 in respect of Ofqual’s legal costs. Final decisions were made by Ofqual’s Enforcement Panel on 5 December 2025.
