This independent review of the NHS Organ Donor Register, announced on 11 April 2010, was prompted by the uncovering of an error in the recording of registrants’ donation wishes.
Sir Gordon’s findings have confirmed that the error originated in 1999, and was caused by a software error when data was transferred to a new computer platform. The report explains in detail how the error occurred, why it was not uncovered sooner, how it was handled and what has been done to prevent a recurrence. The report also includes recommendations on how the Register might reflect registrants’ wishes more clearly.
