Details

To apply for a refund of Class 4 National Insurance contributions you can:

  • use the online service
  • fill in the postal form on-screen, print and post it to HMRC

To apply online, you’ll need to sign in. If you do not already have sign in details, you’ll be able to create them when you apply.

If you use the online form, you’ll get a reference number that you can use to track the progress of your form.

Before you start using the postal form

If you’re using an older browser, you’ll need to update it or use a different browser. Find out more about browsers.

You’ll need to fill in the postal form fully before you can print and post it. You cannot save a partly filled in form so you should gather all your information together before you start to fill it in.
