The statutory programmes of study and attainment targets for science at key stages 1 to 4.
These programmes of study are issued by law; you must follow them unless there’s a good reason not to.
All local-authority-maintained schools in England must teach key stage 1 to 3 from September 2014, and key stage 4 from September 2016.
In the 2014 to 2015 academic year, pupils in years 2 and 6 must follow the current science programmes of study as they will sit the current key stage 1 and 2 tests.
Schools are not required by law to teach the content indicated as being ‘non-statutory’.
Further science resources are available on the TES website. This is free of charge to schools and teachers but they will have to register with the website to use it.
If you would like to add your own free resources to this site, to share with other teachers, please tweet DfE via @educationgovuk.
Short films of teachers and subject experts talking about the national curriculum and how to use it are also available.
