This document provides advice about legislative requirements in Great Britain relating to the maximum length of road vehicles. It is a summary of the Department for Transport’s understanding of what the law requires.

Legal requirements are set out in the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (as amended). This document takes account of amendments to the regulations that came into force on 1 October 2017.
